If her mom really wanted her she would have gotten custody. I especially don't think her mom cares about her.

For people that are arguing that it would have been career suicide, literally all sane mothers would sacrifice their careers for their kids, and she's a pilot with a Harvard degree, she can do other things. Hell, I even bet she could have lived off glowdaddys money and be a stay at home mom.
