It's one of the very very few things that actually make my hamster blood boil, and makes me want to shred someone's face and genitals with my teeth, like good old chimps did to us when we competed for comfy places.

Granted I have not read all one thousand pages, and maybe this is just wishful thinking, but there's enough legitimately bad things in this world without assuming the worst of people when it's not necessary.

I can believe she acted supportive or encouraging of Chris's behavior on the phone just to make him feel safe and continue spilling the beans. That's exactly what you should do if you wanted to expose him. Was it to blackmail him or to leak it to the police? Who cares. It still lead to the information coming out and some justice being served (not to mention gigantic lulz).

Is she crazy? Of course, but she's a woman. That much is a given.
