I'm not even trying to be a dramacow when I say it: these kids are fucked.
We went from latchkey kids to helicopter parenting to....whatever the hell this is. Perma-Bubble Boys & Girls?
I can't imagine listening to some of them lecture their kids all day (I recall one woman even proudly tweeted she warned her kids not to get injured or sick with anything lest they take up a valuable hospital bed). Some claim wearing masks is "no big deal" and the kids barely notice, while others directly contradict that by whining that their kids don't want to wear a mask since no one else is doing it (a fair point. Kids seemed based).
It's all a bunch of finger-pointing, whining and crying about muh children and I predict it'll only worsen as we get deeper into the fall. No doubt even the children whose parents don't make them live in a bubble will suffer from this, too, since they'll lose out on friendships with kids who have batshit parents.

Listen, I'm not opposed to homeschooling by any means, but if it means the kids are also stuck with these parents and living in perpetual lockdown....yeesh.

It really varied from era to era and probably also writer to writer.
Pop culture parodies were always their bread and butter, but they'd often do political and current events humor, and it was a lot more common in the 90's and 2000's and became less common after the election of Barack Obama.
Now, the last time I ever bought a new issue of MAD Magazine was in 2010, so maybe things changed in Obama's second term and the Trump years but there were a lot more political gags in the Bush years and also the Clinton years too.
You could chalk it up to Bush being a perennial punchline among liberals in the 2000's, but Clinton also got a fair bit of mockery too.
Honestly, Bush and Clinton were both presidents who were easy to write jokes about, even with partisan politics taken aside.
Obama was just boring and even if you took the racism angle and the MSM's love of Obama and his rhetoric out of the equation, he just wasn't that "memeable" compared to Bush, Clinton, or even Reagan.
Trump could've been a goldmine for good political humor but TDS kinda ruined that.

Since a fair number of people are walking around coughing and maskless I am wearing one in stores. On the bus some people take them off. The drivers are in a glass cage now anyway. They can't look back to see what you are doing any more. Some black Islamic was eating fries. With a fork. No mask. No one said a damn thing.
Over all I'm over it. But if you are hacking up a lung without a mask don't get smug about it because you can still pass your disease to others. Plus so many people cough without covering it.

i think its selection bias too. there are millions of parents that are normal, they just aren't the ones on social media. i could honestly count on one hand the amount of people from my graduating class who are "very online" or endlessly rant online on their real account. there have always been overprotective parents with shitty beliefs, its just now instead of only knowing them from a friend of a friend, at best; you see them online. i'm sure if social media existed half a century ago we'd hear similarly insane things from communists or communes. imagine what river phoenix's mom said about how she raised her kids.
plus you have to think about demographics too. for every white lib with a kid, theres a half dozen immigrant kids or black kids that dont even know what covid is, their parents dont even own a mask.
home schooling doesn't solve shit either, or did everyone forget that college is where kids were known to be corrupted. Unless you go full amish and just teach your kids the trades and a bit of the basics, theyll eventually learn about these taboo things and either accept it or not, and they sheltered are usually the most trusting because they never got fucked over or have the real world experience. you're better off having your kid suffer through a shitty diverse public school than in a home school. theyll draw their own conclusions about experts, teachers, minorities, and everything else. plus the teachers are so stressed out from having to deal with retards they wont have time to preach about socialism or white privilege

According to documents that we just obtained using the Freedom of Information Act, Fauci just spent $424,000 to commission a study in which healthy beagles are given an experimental drug and then intentionally infested with flies that carry a disease-causing parasite that affects humans.
Records show that the dogs were “vocalizing in pain” during the experiments.
At the end of the ongoing experiment, the dogs will all be killed.
What’s worse is that this is all COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY.
Experimenters admit this investigational drug, “has been extensively tested and confirmed…in different animal models such as mice…Mongolian gerbils…and rhesus macaques….”
There’s literally no excuse for Fauci to waste more than $400,000 of your tax dollars on abusing dogs.

I was looking on the CDC's website and came across some data that I thought was interesting. It shows the total number of COVID related deaths, and deaths related to pneumonia; for clarity, I'm separating the two although there is a section in the data set that combines them (there's also status for influenza.) It is covering a start date of the beginning of 2020 up to the very end of July 2021 (last updated on the 4th of August, 2021.)
The tl;dr version (don't worry, I'll make this part green since this whole post probably looks fucked) according to the numbers is that in every age group from 0-24 there have been more pneumonia related deaths than ones from COVID. It also says there have been slightly more pneumonia deaths (205) for those aged 18-29, but slightly more COVID deaths (90) for those ranged 25-34. For all of the talk about kids dying of COVID it says that for those aged 0-17 there have been a total of 349 deaths; this is less than half the number (842) of those who've died of pneumonia, but nearly double the number (188,) of those who've died of the flu.
It should be noted that in the footnotes of the tables I'm going to link below, it does say: "Number of deaths reported in this table are the total number of deaths received and coded as of the date of analysis, and do not represent all deaths that occurred in that period. Data during this period are incomplete because of the lag in time between when the death occurred and when the death certificate is completed, submitted to NCHS and processed for reporting purposes. This delay can range from 1 week to 8 weeks or more" so the numbers are surely a little different now, but I wouldn't imagine by a whole lot.
Before anyone grafts statements onto me that I'm not making, I will add the following:
- these numbers don't talk about deaths pre/post-vaccine rollouts
- they don't talk about death numbers relating to those who have been vaxed or not or who have other conditions
- you will never be a real woman
- it doesn't show deaths for people aged 65+ (I can only infer the numbers for the grand total account for these)

A number of memes about the US losing the War on Drugs popped up on my FB timeline. Agree or disagree its pretty crazy to think that 30+ years ago it seemed like a great idea and now its looked upon as an outright failure, even by people against legalization.
I don't think there will be magical rubicon-crossing moment when all the pro-lockdown. pro-vaccine mandate elites get Minecrafted; and I certainly don't believe there will be a magic moment when enough good little citizens who live in a society comply with enough restrictions so that their benevolent overlords decided to open back to normal again.
No, this shit will be a back-and-forth struggle, a constant looming state of being for decades to come until a new generation quietly acknowledges it was a dumb idea and finds a way to "lose with dignity" when the virus inevitably wins.
