It’sAGundam points out that Crunchyroll is bad for trying to American-nize anime, while also not understanding who the series is made for.
If I recall, he said the same thing about RWBY as well.

I love when "critics" always whinning without mention the "target" audience.

TNMT is my favorite example. Same situation happened in videogames; Marvel giving Capcom his own IP's to create some videogames in the 90's, Konami doing the same thing with TNMT, and a lot of things.Funny thing is America used to be able to do anime-ish cartoons with and without co-producing with Japan in the 80ies, 90ies and up til the mid 00ies.
Then pirate every and any CH original!it's simple, unsub Crunchyroll.
HGS' issue is that it just looks bad. I actually skimmed through the trailer, and some of the art looked fine (as in on model), but it looks like some of the artists just stopped giving a shit some times so it mostly result in it looking dumb. Back in the day, people had better work ethic and skill due to treating it like a business and using traditional methods.Funny thing is America used to be able to do anime-ish cartoons with and without co-producing with Japan in the 80ies, 90ies and up til the mid 00ies.
Don't forget that there is a difference between boarding and animation, though I believe what you've said covers both aspects which sadly doesn't really bode well for HGS. Most modern shows either suffer from one or the other, not both.HGS' issue is that it just looks bad. Now that any Joe can make cartoons, the quality has started to drop (in the west anyway). I believe its because of things like Flash making it easy for animation, so animators don't have to try as hard, which means animators don't develop the same skill.
Yep, Europe as well.Funny thing is America used to be able to do anime-ish cartoons with and without co-producing with Japan in the 80ies, 90ies and up til the mid 00ies.
Used to catch the odd episode of Alfred J Kwak at my grandparents place. The intro is very memorableYep, Europe as well.
I always felt like Wakfu was close enough to an anime style, but eventually becomes its own thing the later on it goes.

If only America got to see it. It's like a Disney Afternoon show but with a mature plot.Used to catch the odd episode of Alfred J Kwak at my grandparents place. The intro is very memorable
Herman Van Veen is awesomeIf only America got to see it. It's like a Disney Afternoon show but with a mature plot.
I miss Harald Siepermann personally. I had him on Facebook but never got to ask him a question before his passing.Herman Van Veen is awesome
Wait, you mean the same "Steenz" thatChristina 'Steenz' Stewart
Wait, you mean the same "Steenz" thatruinedtook over the newspaper comic Heart of the City?
For context, this is what it looked like before Steenz (Mark Tatulli; Heart is the character on the right, on the left is her friend Dean):

And this is what it looks like now (Heart's on the left, Dean is the guy hanging off of the second 2):

Even knowing nothing about the comic at all, which one do you think has more personality? Which one gives you more of an idea of character? Which art-style looks more appealing? If you picked "the one on top", congratulations! You're not chugging the SJW Kool-Aid. (SERIOUSLY, WHY IS EVERYONE SO FAT?! The Heart of 1998-2020 would be likeif she could see what she looks like now.)
On topic though, holy SHIT does HGS look like trash. Not even interesting or trainwreck level trash (like Steven Universe or Magical Girl Friendship Squad), just one big pile of blegh.
Reminds me of Goodbye Volcano High. What is with doomed SJW projects and having the main cast as a punk band?
I'm inclined to believe it simply because I've seen that happen in the games industry with GamerGate, and a lesser extent in comics with ComicsGate. In other words it's as reputable as a 4Chan "leak". I.e not true at all. Anything to shit on this show it seems
I think it's the opposite. Comics can be made solo if you have enough money to throw at an artist, or even make yourself. You can even download backgrounds using Sketchup. Games are difficult to make, but anyone can download unity, slap some store bought assets together, and call it a "game". Animation isn't that easy. This makes cancelling attempts more effective since a long animator isn't going to get far on his own.Now that any Joe can make cartoons, the quality has started to drop (in the west anyway). I believe its because of things like Flash making it easy for animation, so animators don't have to try as hard, which means animators don't develop the same skill.
I totally forgot about this until I saw the trailer a few days ago. While this looks like trash and I rolled my eyes at the trailer acting like this was something "brand new", I'm not understanding some of the overreactions I saw. It was kind of amusing (and somewhat sad) to see some people taking this to such a personal level.I love when "critics" always whinning without mention the "target" audience.
I'm still assure, both HGS and RWBY are top-tier weeabo trash: but their "targets" are for people who like shit. I talked with a acquaintance who love that type of shit. If those people exists, things like those gonna still be created and nothing we can do.
It's a shame how desilusion in general is giving the bucks to people who can to take advantage of. Is phenomenal at the end.
Now, if you really don't like HGS, it's simple, unsub Crunchyroll. Hit when those fucks are more vulnerables.
It looks bad, the concept is bad, the voice acting is bad, the writing is bad. There's absolutely nothing redeeming about it and there's absolutely no reason to watch it over some throw-away isekai or slice of life magical girl high-school anime that a studio produced for quick cash. Because all of that shit is superior to it in every way, even if it was meant to just be filler. I have no idea why this exists. The anime market is in high demand and it isn't as if we're spoiled for choice on decent series. There's so many good ones it takes forever to watch them all and if you just want something brain-dead, there are way prettier options to use. Then pirate every and any CH original!

Its a very small audience. This isn't anime, even the most woke weebs are going to have a hard time looking at this. The trailer has barely cracked 100k and is already ratioed into oblivion. 15k dislikes and 2k likes. Its nearly an 8:1 ratio. The audience this is for is basically people who like Steven Universe and really shitty Western cartoons, and I assure you they will be pirating this, not subscribed to Crunchy Roll.I totally forgot about this until I saw the trailer a few days ago. Now, I won't deny the obvious "woke" elements in the show or behind the scenes, but I do agree that this will probably have an audience. Now how big the audience is, only time will tell. But said "audience" will likely be made up of those weeabo, very liberal, toxic Tumblr types.
Don't be surprised, I've seen idiots say they're glad the show didn't die and were legit worried the "toxic masculinity of the anime fanbase," scared Crunchyroll into giving up on this. And that said "toxic fanbases." Need to be silenced and removed from the "real fanbases." Like without the slightest hint of irony in how they sound like total fascists saying that.It looks bad, the concept is bad, the voice acting is bad, the writing is bad. The whole thing is a rip-off of anime that isn't actually anime. It doesn't look better, it doesn't sound better and is ultimately pointless. This would only be relevant in a VERY narrow window during the time when you could only get anime OVAs on VHS tapes out of order in some back corner of an old electronics/record store. Where the fandom would just chow down anything in desperation.
There is no longer that desperation in the fandom and its a lot more discerning. You can't just shovel out this turd and expect it to land. This honestly isn't anime, its just a shitty Western cartoon. I couldn't even get through the trailer without cringing so hard I felt nauseated. Its a cartoon for children, it isn't anime.

And there in lies the problem. Crunchroll was, supposedly, going to use it's funds to give money to anime creators and licence more shows, but instead chose to drop Interspecies Reviews and fund this. That's the only reason people are even pretending this is anime. This honestly isn't anime, its just a shitty Western cartoon.
