I can safely say this is the first time I've seen a baby without any eyes at all. Doesn't appear to have a neck either, and it's fingers/hands look deformed, though it's hard to tell due to poor lighting in a hundred year old photo. But the pinky on the left hand looks like a stub and the right hand appears to be a fingerless stump.

Anyone planning on a Mütter visit; contact them beforehand, inquire about viewing the back collection (items not on display publicly at the time.) They rotate their exhibits, so if you are a student, medical worker, artist or researcher you can ask to see specific things. I viewed the back room several times there. Teratology and infectious disease specimens that are rarely shown.

There's no photography (unless you obtain a license to photograph, through them) but copious notes and sketches are allowed. My colleague and I were given an entire week for each request.

It's not even a power level, they schedule this regularly with many people every year.

Here's a memorial video from a baby that didn't have eyes, either.

Here's some of the latest video's from Ember Torres and her holoprosencephaly baby Derek.
The link below shows sprawled on his proud papa's lap while mama giggles about him playing with a toy. Using his hands to grip things and making repetitive motions with his arms are really all he seems to be able to do, but those are close enough to the actions of a normal baby that his mom is convinced he's using conscious reasoning to actually interact with the world around him.
Here, his mom wants to show you that he's able to get mad
And here she expresses some anger herself because "this idiot" was telling her about her kid and they don't even know him like she knows him and she was "not having a good night so this was not the time to get into it" with her.
Parents like her kill me. She puts her severely deformed, profoundly brain damaged kid online for all the world to see, then acts surprised and offended by negative comments. She can claim she's just a mom who loves her kid, but I'm pretty sure he didn't ask to be in her videos and he gets no benefit out of them. She posts because she wants attention and she knows she'll get it when she includes her semicyclops potato baby in her vids. Don't get me wrong. I find medical aberrations fascinating, so if she wants to keep posting these videos, I'll keep watching, but I'm just saying she knew exactly what was going to happen if she showed this kid off to the world, but she chose to do so anyway, so no one is buying her offended, protective mother lion act.
Finally, the video below show's Derek "passed out."...Soo precious...not at all like a Lovecraftian nightmare.

I'd also love to go to the Mutter museum one day. The videos I've seen of it are really interesting, but I'm sure they don't compare to seeing the exhibits up close and in person.

It does seem to have some cephalic condition and aspects of its cranio-facial development appear to be similar to a baby with alobar holoprosencephaly(HPE), but it has so many other deformities and anomalies, I can't tell for sure what it is. I know that HPE can affect other systems in the body, such as the endocrine system, so that might be the case with this kid. I know that Derek, the HPE baby I mention above, also has a lot of deformities and weird features that I don't recall seeing in other HPE babies, so the condition appears to have a lot of variation.
As far as Mollymae, She lived for three days and died, so I can't imagine that there will be many more updates about her.
I'm frankly horrified watching the angry baby video. That poor being is miserable and I can see his suffering. I couldn't carry the child to term willingly.

Another Holoprosencephaly baby. For such a rare condition, we sure seem to find a lot of them.

He appears to be very developmentally disabled, yet his reactions indicate that he's not totally lacking in consciousness. He seems to be capable of feeling pain and discomfort. He's in that hellish middle ground where he's brain damaged enough to have a myriad of problems, yet not so damaged that he can't suffer because of them.

This dude came up a few years ago when facebook deleted posts cause of how he looked.
SBSK did another interview with him now that hes 18.

Spoiled because last time he made people actually sick in this thread to look at him:
he's tough as all get out. damn

he's got a better mind for life than any cow on this forum. he says he learned to rise up. I'm not big on inspiration porn but I'm impressed.

Oh jfc. Behind the Cronenberg body horror surface he’s such a sweet, bright and charming boy. Considering he has no lips and such a fucked up jaw he’s absolutely mastered speaking clearly in two languages. I hope life brings him good things, he deserves it. ♥️

Would there be any issues with having the nasal cavity exposed?

He talks about eye surgery and wanting to wait. How would that possibly impact his quality of life as well as other surgery he may face in the future?

His outlook is great. I wish him the best. :heart-full:
his nasal passages being open just means he's likely to have an impaired sense of smell, and be more prone to sinus infection (less protective membranes and hairs to catch bacteria). I think he's waiting on his eyes to see if the surgical technique improve to give him a better chance at full vision.

he could use a jaw revision- being able to close his mouth would save his teeth, salivary glands, and allow him a better ability to eat. I would think that surgery is probably planned at some point. They may do reconstruction with donated tissue for his nose, to at least give him a bridge and nostrils, but that's less a priority. his mouth, jaw and then eyes would be most important.

I’m mad at his parents. Who leaves a lit candle unattended around a sleeping toddler? That’s what happened to him, his blanket caught on fire.

I know it’s come up before in this thread the wards full of brain damaged kids from shaken baby syndrome, but I’ve also seen some takes out there in the wider world lately that shaken baby syndrome isn’t real. Thoughts?

Hell yeah, as fucked as his face is this kid is the shit. Its great to hear he's still doing well and I hope he continues to succeed.

One thought I had when he was first posted is how intensive would any possibly reconstructive surgery he could get be, and what would the recovery time be like? Because I realized even if theres stuff he could get, it would probably fuck with his schooling and social life so I could see why he'd choose to forgo it for the time being.

I hate inspiration porn too but damn, kid survived being lit on fire as a baby and even though his face and body are fucked up he still managed to learn two languages, do well in school, have friends and even a GF, and all around seems to be a bright and kind kid. The virgin incel vs. the Chad burned kid

Oh, it's real. Hot takes like that are common among people who have given infants and toddlers multiple brain injuries.

out of curiosity, I checked in on little Eva and it appears she's been in the hospital for a while. This was posted July 23, and no updates on dad's account since. On mom's account only the same update basically, but posted Aug 3. I did check for obits but none were hers.

I've only seen heart cancer once in a body, and it was a younger woman with DS. There's a lot of comorbidities, and people are poorly informed about it.
It's okay if you can't answer this, but I'm intrigued. Was it an angiosarcoma? What was the tumor like histologically?

People think DS is all smiling tards and it is not. My childhood acquaintance (of "I'm not retarded, I have Down syndrome, asshole!" fame) is very high functioning and lived in fear of developing dementia. It's really sad, because her family couldn't exactly lie to her and say it wouldn't happen, because she knew it could. There's no way to know if it will happen to her, and if it does, she understands what will happen. It's terrible.

It's so surreal to hear that clear and normal voice to that severely messed up face. What a trooper though, it really is amazing just to have survived that, let alone being able to still get so much out of life afterwards.

It's been awhile since I checked up on "gods brave little warrior Silas" and sure enough, he's still kicking. Well, not kicking but he's still breathing.

They're talking about doing a thymus transplant, and to me , it's seems to be a sketchy sign when only one medical place does it. I sure wouldn't want to be doing it if I was a doctor, I'd rather do it on a child with a normal rate of recovery, rather than not be able to show any signs whatsoever.

He made it to six months, and his head is slowly forming a heart shape. Soon him and Luna can have mental playdates.
