I think it's a case where because Maddox was such a faggot, it was 1) eclipsing/masking Dick's own faggotry and 2) easy for Dick to make an entertaining spectacle out of that shitshow.

Always Sunny is a really funny show, but if the characters were real people they'd be utterly despicable. Likewise, when you realize Dax isn't pretending to be this caricature of a peaked-in-high-school drug addict chasing BPD women and begging for sex, but is simply not aware that he should be ashamed, the magic dies.
