The Afghan Army was allegedly last paid in March. If the US had evacuated Kabul by May 1 as planned, the ANA would be somewhat less likely to immediately surrender on contact and the Taliban ceasefire would have been in effect.

By delaying until the Taliban literally knocked on the doors of Kabul, the Biden administration caused a Saigon level catastrophe with videos of people falling from the wheel wells of C-17s and being shot by US troops on the runway. That's the loss.

FYI the Russian Embassy is open and never shut down. They didn't run away in fear but stayed there to help their citizens.
