If memory serves, Null has actually given contradictory information about that. At some point Null said something to the effect of that he considered it because he was finding arguments about ratings from both "sides" to be a problem of some kind.

The way politics has worked for a long while now is you find something you want to do and then you find a justification for it to happen. Never in my life have I heard of a President being sent to bed by his wife because he couldn't process. EVER. ANY President worthy of the name would be in there pitching until they passed out from exhaustion. President Trump sure would have. Clinton, the Bushes, whoever, same thing, pretty much.

We haven't lived in a world in a very, very long time where a President can just go to bed when major-league shit involving the USA is happening in the world. Last President with that sort of opportunity was probably Coolidge, but nothing that earth-shaking happened on his watch.
