That is the legitimate bean-counter logic at the Pentagon, though - if it costs more to crate up old material, move it onto a plane/ship, have it return home from overseas, and then get overhauled/serviced and then subsequently put into storage than it is to buy brand new stuff, they'll leave it there. That's why at the end of the Vietnam War we left the South Vietnamese Air Force with more transport and COIN aircraft than they could ever use themselves, and why at the end of World War II we were dumping trucks, jeeps, and entire crates of supplies and ammunition right into the Pacific rather than loading them back up onto ships for transport.

He gives a public endorsement of the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan.
Taliban gives him a staff position and ignores him having worked with the US.

gotta give it to him at least he didn't run and instead looked to negotiate with the Taliban for a peaceful and official transition instead of outright bailing at the first sign of trouble, should had put this guy in charge

And if that happens, I think we could kiss America goodbye. I mean, it's a group that can tolerate America vs a country whose legislators chant "Death To America" and has policies referring to America as "The Great Satan". Hell, If Iran had evidence that the Saudi government had a hand in 9/11, I'm willing to bet they won't share it because they don't want to help their eternal mortal enemy.
 
So the US has flown out 700-ish people in the last 24 hours, including just 165 US citizens.

Meanwhile, they've brought 1000 troops in.

Funny kind of evacuation, where you end up with more people in the country at the end of the day.

The new government of Afghanistan has given a two-week timespan for governments to retrieve their citizens. While the US claims they'll be evacing 5-9k US citizens and foreign nationals per day, this is an incredibly ambitious goal when you're sending up C-17s with about 100 people on each one. A typical high-volume airport runway sees 200-ish takeoffs per day, but somewhere like Kabul doesn't see anything close to that level of action. With 40-80,000 people needing to be removed in 14 days, they've so far removed 1,400 (and added back 1,000+) in two days. If they're not getting 3k+ people out per day by tomorrow, this is going to turn into a true human rights nightmare, and the whole thing will be livestreamed.

the swamp is decades old by now, it's pretty much guaranteed they figured out long ago how to hide shit or fudge the numbers to get the POTUS signature they want.

however I don't think it was some form of rebellion or inner conviction, trump already got the plan rolling, going back in would've been even worse (even tho that forever war is exactly what the swamp wants, so they tried to stall), biden gets cranky old man style and just says "least want a photo-op with my name on it, get it done" without budging. there's only so much you can fudge the numbers before it bites you in the ass, and the outcome is usually the chaos and mismanagement you saw.
