If Biden does decide to cut federal funding to nursing homes who have unvaxxed staff look forward to another unmitigated disaster under this regimes watch. Nursing homes in my area are so desperate for staff that they're offering a $5000 sign on bonus for nurses aids, some times more for nurses. I know for a fact that a majority of the workers in these facility's are not vaxxed(at least in my area and I imagine a majority of my state), and a good chunk of them would let themselves be fired over this. These facility's cannot afford to lose the remaining staff they have, if their staff numbers dip consistently below what they already are they have 2 options.
1. hire outside agency's to staff their facility's which will cost them double what they already pay for staff(sometimes up to triple the cost), none of them can afford this government aid or not.
2. shut down their facility's and ship the residents to their family's households or the hospital's.
Literally the only options on the table if Biden decides to ram rod this shit through.

Just found out my other half was exposed to COVID at work. Here's what happens next - he has to go get a test done tomorrow morning (despite being at work right fucking now, they did not tell him to just go home lol). If it's positive, he needs to quarantine for 2 weeks, during which he will be required to use his accumulated sick time, basically completely wiping it from existence. For some reason he's under the impression he'd need to cancel a concert we're going to next week but I don't see how some grimey punk bar will know or care he tested positive. Anyway, he told me if this happens he is quitting. It shocked me a bit because it will set us back 5+ years unless he can secure something better quickly, but I support him whatever he chooses to do. Neither of us have symptoms.

Here's to hoping it's a negative test result. We all know how reliable those are.

You'd be surprised what you get offered if you manage to work your way into a company, and show that you're valuable, then give them a formal letter of resignation a few weeks early. Sometimes the head honcho/manager calls you up to offer you a different placement. It's not always a death sentence, don't lose hope yet. Sometimes they just want to know what they can do to smooth things over. It's only been like a day, I'm sure it will be negative. Hang in there.

If he is deciding to quit anyway, typing up a letter sometimes can be better than a verbal thing. It sits on a desk for a little bit of time, people can stew a bit, it can sometimes turn out favorable.

@tehpope these videos coming out of Australia get my hackles up. I do not like how they are presenting themselves in these news conferences, at all. Not good.

They will never admit that if it's true. That would go against The Almighty Science. Those double-jabbed people who have developed symptomatic COVID, may potentially be hospitalized if they are high-risk, and can spread it just as easily as the unjabbed? I keep thinking these government orders, mandates, and vaccine passports won't going away for a very long time, and when it does, it will go away because barely anyone follows them and leave us with no fanfare. Like I've compared this to the US National Speed Limit, the "Can't Drive 55" shit, which was put in place because we needed to reduce our fuel consumption because of the oil embargo and then kept in place because of dubious statistics regarding safety. It lasted almost twenty years until the early 90s and was widely ignored, like to the point that a number of traffic studies confirm that people are more likely to follow the usual 70 MPH speed limit than they were the 55 MPH speed limit. The police only bothered enforcing it whenever they needed to write more traffic tickets and there were never enough cops to enforce it even though you'd think with so many people not giving a fuck most departments could easily hire more officers and buy more cars like a lot of speed trap towns do.

That's what this will be like. There will be many, many times and places you'll never need a mask and nobody will check your papers, but every now and then you'll find some asshole wagie on a power trip who demands you wear the virus hijab or show your vaccine passport or you'll be particularly unlucky and a cop might cite you. Some businesses might get fucked because they aren't checking vaccine passports on the day the health inspector shows up, but that's no different than when they fuck up cleaning in one area and get a citation.

This is the new normal until you die. It's seeing half the people walked around with their face half covered. It's being surprised out of the blue when a store demands to see your vaccine passport after the other 5 stores you went to didn't bother. If you're lucky enough, your government might quietly remove these policies.
