That's not the salient point, the salient point is the optics of "sticking to policy" on such a matter in an actual life and death situation while at the same time using taxpayer dollars to essentially subsidize illegal immigration by the thousands of border crossers that are coming. Yeah, they can try and handwave it and utter some line about how it's been policy for a while etc - but in this moment, at this time, given the circumstances? There is no way they are going to salvage those optics among anyone other than the truly braindead, who at that point should be regarded as lost causes and their coming loss should not be mourned.

Rescue is a joke. The numbers they're throwing out (7,000 total since 8/14 but we'll totally be able to get capacity to 5-9k!) are inflated and they won't give a breakdown by citizenship and are sending citizens of different countries to different airports to make it harder for anyone to get a total count.
They're going to flagrantly lie about the numbers and it will require the foreign press to get any information. The United States home "journos" will dutifully report on the total numbers given and not ask any hard questions about breaking those numbers down or whether they can be confirmed by other nations.

UGH. The State Dept told them to get the fuck out of the country in April. So, these people have had since April to catch commercial flights out of there. Who would go that route if they knew they could hang out until they got a free flight out on tax payer dime? Second, it's a promissory note. Those get broken all the time. Third, if I were king, every flight carrying illegals would have landed in Guatemala and they could sort themselves from there. We should be running Carnaval cruise line ships out of San Diego and Texas on a daily basis to ship them back to Guatemala or what ever port of their choosing so long as it's south of Mexico.
