Taliban offensive of 2021 and collapse of Afghan government.

I don't dispute the stuff WE left behind being broken or at the end of their service life. I'm more curious about the stuff the ANA had, which is the overwhelming majority of what the Taliban got. Did the ANA really have no ammo to give their own troops the last few months? Did the ANA have no reliable way to maintain weapons/equipment after the USA left?

This almost feels like, as Todd Howard would say, a feature and not a bug for our equipment. The ANA would rely on having technicians ("specialists") maintain equipment as long as the ANA wanted to use it and the minute the manufacturers/defense contractors are out of the picture, everything goes to shit. I feel like that was the original plan from the start -- the US Military would be out but specialist technicians would always be present to maintain equipment, since the ANA were technically customers.
Ok, so the potentially good stuff is essentially in three categories. Artillery, support equipment, and vehicles.

Vehicles is a wash. Good until it breaks and while they probably have some specialists or people who can fix it, they don’t have a lot of them and spare parts will run out. Lots of Afghani aircraft fled and they assassinated pilots. They could learn to use what they captured in terms of aircraft but that’s a long time investment and I don’t think they’ll do that. They’ll run it until it breaks or leave it behind to rust like the Soviet depots.

Artillery is a mixed bag. Some stuff will be used some won’t, depends on ammunition, training, and if they give enough of a fuck to try and use it. Mortars will be used for sure though.

Support equipment is the real fucking bitch of it all. Small drones, night vision gear, minesweeping equipment, demolition charges, medical supplies, uniforms, fuel, food, armory tools, boots, plate carriers, chest rigs, radios, counter battery radar (I swear we gave some to the Afghan army). Some of this stuff is easy to use, some of it will require specialists, some of it isn’t going to last long, some will last nearly forever. This is the biggest boon to them overall. It helps them pretend to be a legitimate military force, helps them keep fighters, looks shiny and nice, is practical, and in general is all the little shit that while not necessary for the civil war that is going to continue on indefinitely in the country, will help them fight it, though not always directly.

Y'all niggas missing the forest for the trees, the materiel doesn't matter, its the thousands of new jihadis that are going to flock to the emirate, that came into being due to Allah's blessing for the righteous defenders of the faith and fan out from there, that matter.

That's why this is a disaster.
This won’t last forever. Russia will not tolerate someone muscling in on the other ‘stans. Iran has religious and strategic regions to ensure that the Taliban remain focused on Afghanistan. India is about to have its angriest shits in decades - come hell or high water they’re going to find a way to try and undermine the Taliban, or at least make Pakistan have to invest more and more into them.

Pakistan is also likely to have this come back and bite them. The Taliban in Pakistan are already active. This will embolden them.

China is probably the next to try and directly intervene (aside from Iran if a war between them and Pakistan somehow happens though they’re pretty content to rile up their sectarian groups in each other’s countries) and I can’t wait to see them starve again like it’s ‘79 and the trees are speaking Vietnamese. I would love for the Taliban to try and spread the revolution into Xianjing. Whoever loses, we win and it’ll be funny.

That was stuff for the ANA. Don’t be a fucking retard.
The train of US branded humvees, armor and aircraft Taliban showing off on top of the obscene piles of US military issued weapons directly prove you wrong.
Overwhelming majority of them aren't even disabled, you're ignoring the videos of their use. While the Taliban doesn't have pilots yet, they are using US humvees and armor right fucking now.

I wish I was 10 years old again, the last time I was this naive. Russia will encourage every angry incel raghead to make their way there, India wants to push China's shit in so they'll do whatever they can to make that happen, including encouraging the liberation of Uighurs on the down low and the chinks are going to try robbing them blind before they get bitten in their dog eating asses and the Pakis literally spawned the Taliban, as if.

We fucking lose and lost more than some shithole full of goatfuckers, we lost the game, just like every other country manned by assholes too busy smelling their own farts that wandered into that dump.
Whoever loses, we win and it’ll be funny.
This is like Trudeau's "If you kill your enemies they win". State is full of people this delusional and they're the one responsible for this shit show.

Billions in US weaponry seized by Taliban

The United States spent an estimated $83 billion training and equipping Afghan security forces over the last two decades.

Between 2003 and 2016, the United States transferred 75,898 vehicles, 599,690 weapons, 162,643 pieces of communications equipment, 208 aircraft, and 16,191 pieces of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance equipment to Afghan forces, according to a 2017 Government Accountability Office report.

From 2017 to 2019, the United States also gave Afghan forces 7,035 machine guns, 4,702 Humvees, 20,040 hand grenades, 2,520 bombs and 1,394 grenade launchers, among other equipment, according to a report last year from the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR

Hey can we chill out with the you, no you stuff for a dozen pages at a time?

Looks like they have identified some of the people who fell off the plane. I think this guy was the one wedged in the gears flapping in the wind or the one who splatted on the old man's roof.

Further proving that the Biden administration is absolutely inept and just seemingly wants to dig itself into the hole even further:

Do they think the Taliban is just going to lie down and take abuse like this when they have 5-7k NATO troops corralled into a pen and surrounded? It just showcases that the Americans cannot be trusted to even hold up their end of a limited ceasefire to evacuate a fucking airport and embassy staff.

People seem to be pointing out that the various NATO members and European nations are just rolling convoys out to grab their citizens while the Americans are just sitting in the airport terrified and talking big game.

Afghanistan was elected to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in September 2020 for a term running from 2021-2025. Twitter is wondering if the Taliban will inherit the spot. :story:

Afghanistan has secured a seat at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) for the first time in its history, the South Asian country’s Permanent Mission to the UN announced on Tuesday.

Afghanistan received 39 votes to find a place at the prestigious body, which is dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women globally. India also secured a seat.

China was also a contender but failed to secure enough votes. The term will last from 2021 until 2025.

Afghanistan’s representative to the UN, Adela Raz, said winning the seat was of “critical importance”.

Sahraa Karimi, a filmmaker and director of the country’s Afghan Film directorate, praised Raz’s efforts in winning the seat, adding that: “Afghan women have reached a state where they no longer need to be handed something, they earn it through their own worth.

“The position she [Raz] has won is very important, God willing she will be able to use this opportunity to further highlight the issues of Afghan women, to increase their visibility at a time when we are in the peace negotiations and we need to defend our rights,” Karimi told Al Jazeera.

A spokesman for Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said winning a seat on the prestigious commission “means a lot to us”.

“Afghan women are not only reshaping the future of Afghanistan and their meaningful role but also will demonstrate their potential globally,” Sediq Sediqqi told Al Jazeera.

“Of course, they can defend universal rights of women, but, for sure, firstly they will champion for the women of Afghanistan. This is yet another reminder to the world that our society is being run by women now.”
Talks between Afghan government and Taliban open in Qatar

The issue of women’s rights in Afghanistan is significant in negotiations between the current Afghan government and the Taliban aimed at bringing an end to conflict in the country.

“While Afghan women are being underestimated and their rights are in on the edge and there is a fear of [those rights] being compromised during peace negotiations, I highly appreciate the appointment of Adela Raz this important position. This will pave the way for her to advocate more efficiently for Afghan women and their rights,” Shkula Zadran, Afghanistan’s youth representative to UN, told Al Jazeera.

The so-called intra-Afghan talks being held in the Qatari capital, Doha, come more than six months after the United States and the Taliban signed an agreement to end the 19-year war.

That deal called for the withdrawal of American troops from the country in exchange for a security guarantee from the Taliban, which has waged an armed rebellion since 2001 when it was removed from power in a US-led invasion.

Many Afghan women have shown concern that a US troop withdrawal and the re-emergence of the Taliban in Afghan politics could thwart their efforts to secure more rights for women.

During their six-year reign from 1996 to 2001, the Taliban imposed measures to limit women’s rights, banning girls education and employment. But last year, a Taliban official told Al Jazeera that the group would strike a “moderate tone” on women’s issues.

“It is a privilege for an Afghan woman to win the highest votes. I am proud of Adela,” Zakia Wardak, Consular General of Afghanistan in Mumbai, told Al Jazeera.

“We need strong women to represent Afghan women, to show that we, the women of Afghanistan, can be the best political figures, great entrepreneurs, the best housewives, teachers and soldiers. We need this especially now that the peace talks are happening.”

Edit: Here's the listing of nations, on the UN Website. Afghanistan is on it.

Afghanistan won a seat to the UN Women's Commission and the term is from 2021-2025. I'm not sure of the particulars but my belief is that if the Taliban are recognized as the de jure government of Afghanistan then they should inherit the seat, which would be delightful.

Russia will happily export the jihadis they have there and also fund the central Asians to keep them contained. They don’t want that shit at home or next door. Direct intervention in Afghanistan by them isn’t happening.

Pakistan has issues with the branch of the Taliban in Pakistan. They’re hard to control for them and there’s also border dispute stuff.
