In a labor market where there are many potential new hirees for every open position, this means the power of the company is increased compared to the worker. Wokeness in general, and gender stuff in particular, despite its left wing culture war vibe, is useful for neoliberals for basically old school right wing union busting reasons because its a new way to insert an issue people feel hyperbolic about (like catering to religious hypersenstives used to be) that prevents worker solidarity and different people uniting against their boss and HR.
