Danny DeVito Abruptly Loses Twitter Verification After Tweeting Support For Nabisco Strike

By Ryan Smith On 8/20/21 at 3:52 AM EDT

Danny DeVito's Twitter account was briefly unverified before being reinstated, after he tweeted support for striking Nabisco workers.

As walkouts spread across U.S. Nabisco bakeries, with union workers protesting proposed changes amid contract negotiations, screen star DeVito took to Twitter to express solidarity on Wednesday.

"Support Nabisco workers striking for humane working hours, fair pay, outsourcing jobs," wrote the actor, director and producer, who concluded his message: "NO CONTRACTS NO SNACKS."

However, in the hours that followed, a number of DeVito's followers soon expressed confusion over the status of his account, as his blue badge—Twitter's distinctive sign of verification—disappeared from his account.

One of DeVito's followers enquired if his choice of message had caused a problem, writing: "Did Twitter strip you of your blue check for this tweet?"

Another commented: "I'm a little flummoxed. Is it against the terms of service to talk about strikes on twitter??"

A third Twitter user said: "Danny, I would like to support your cause but I really can't do that unless you're verified. Please get verified."

On Thursday, media outlet More Perfect Union shared a tweet stating DeVito had confirmed to them that his Twitter account had been unverified.

According to Twitter's FAQs regarding verification, the company states that they "may also remove the blue badge from accounts that are found to be in severe or repeated violation of the Twitter Rules."

"This includes... Repeat violations in Tweets, including but not limited to: hateful conduct policy, abusive behavior, glorification of violence policy, civic integrity policy, private information policy, or platform manipulation and spam policy."

Newsweek has contacted representatives for Twitter and Danny DeVito for comment.

Nabisco, makers of Oreo cookies and Ritz Crackers, has faced increased pressure from striking workers at factories in Oregon, Virginia and Illinois, amid contract negotiations with parent company Mondelez International, Inc.

According to Today, employees at a sales distribution center in Colorado also joined the strike on August 12. All striking workers are members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers, and Grain Millers International Union.

At issue, say union leaders, is a proposal from Mondelez to go from eight-hour shifts, five days a week, to 12-hour shifts, three or four days a week, without overtime. Also proposed is more mandatory work on weekends without extra pay.

"This fight is about maintaining what we already have," Mike Burlingham, vice president of BCTGM Local 364 in Portland, told Today Food. "During the pandemic, we all were putting in a lot of hours, demand was higher, people were at home, and the snack food industry did phenomenally well.

"Mondelez made record profits and they want to thank us by closing two of the U.S. bakeries (last month) and telling the rest of us we have to take concessions, what kind of thanks is that? We make them a lot of money. It's very disheartening. How is that supposed to make us feel?"

This article doesn't mention it but Twitter was probably worried Danny's Twitter page had been hacked and unverified him until they could confirm that he really did send the tweet.

Honestly, the fact that Danny didn't get mega-fucked during #metoo is almost legendary. Dude is known to be the biggest creep of all time. I wouldn't be surprised if the only reason he wasn't blacklisted from everything yet was just IASIP. It's only a matter of time before it all goes south for him.
Sauce on this? Google doesn't turn up much and this is the first I'm hearing this. Most say he's a pretty wonderful person.

Never found Devito to be funny anyway.

Also lol at the people protesting oreos, when they were sucking the company's cock during pride.

I don't even understand what verification IS anymore. Isn't verification just supposed to prove somebody is who they say they are? Does he stop being Danny DeVito by making certain Tweets?
Originally this is what Verification was meant to be, there was a change back in 2015ish where they realized there was people who were verified that were engaging in wrongthink, Danny Devito is engaging in wrongthink by actively siding with the workers in a strike rather than just giving vacious statements that he supports the underclass, he went and picked a fight with the corporate overlords. The woke crowd decided that they would "prebunk" stuff by having Google and others optimize towards favoring blue check marks and other approved woke sources in searches and then Twitter would work towards curating the blue check marks. The Council for Foreign Relations actually had people come up on a web thing back in 2020 and directly tell his woke crowd that this is their goal. Recently you can see in the headlines that some Google project mana
ger left the company and leaked that Google had adjusted their search queries to be focused on Anti-Trump material as well. This is an on going thing, I think the only group to actively point this out is Adam Curry and John C Dvorak's podcast, the segment is about 10 minutes long but its quite informative as the opposition directly tells you what they're doing and why while Curry and Dvorak comment on it. Curry comes from a media background from MTV and something of the Tech scene and Dvorak is an 80s-90s Tech journalist so they are familiar with these cretins.

Right? I heard Mara Wilson say good things about him when they were working on Matilda.

Andrea Savage and a bunch of the actors from Deck The Halls were discussing how Danny would grab women on the asses all the time and try to sexually assault them at parties, lol. Wish I had audio clips, but I think a few episodes of How Did This Get Made come up with these allegations now and then.

I thought the point of verification was verification, not how much of a good boy someone is.

Oh, it stopped being fully about verification years ago. I believe the start was back in 2016 when Milos Yiannopoulos kept saying things that provoked outrage from the left leaning social media vultures. Who amongst other things, kept complaining that he had the blue verified checkmark as though that was some mark of approval on twitter's part or some sort of badge indicating that he was someone who should be listened to. Eventually twitter caved to the whiners and removed the "verification" checkmark that supposedly was just to indicate that a twitter account was who they claimed to be; while claiming that it totally wasn't the first time they'd removed verification for similar reasons but no they would not give any details on numbers or criteria. After that it became a standard thing for them to remove a user's "verification" for having too many opinions that twitter deemed wrong, or otherwise violated what twitter found "acceptable". Despite it having nothing to do with the blue checkmark's ostensible purpose.

Though in this case I'd wager that his support for the striking workers resulted in someone abusing the report process to provoke an automated de-verification precisely to slow down the sort of cretins who might genuinely say:
"Danny, I would like to support your cause but I really can't do that unless you're verified. Please get verified."
Twitter's never going to want to admit that its automated processes are so easily abusable, so the impact of his support gets reduced and he has to go through some hassle to get the verification restored, all while the cause remains untraceable. Not a bad way of getting a bit of reprisal against the guy they have no direct means to punish.

I don't think you can just spam report someone's verification away. The only automated way to lose your bluecheck is to change your @ twitter handle. My best guess is that Nabisco or its parent company threatened to pull ad money if twitter didn't slap his hand for wrongthink. I hope these dipshits enjoy getting unpersoned for criticizing any corporation, "journalist" or politician favored by the tech monopolist pigfuckers. It's not like people were warning these mongs about this exact scenario for several years.
