Taliban offensive of 2021 and collapse of Afghan government.

improve citizens lives? bring an end to war and chaos by establishing taliban hegemony, that's all.
generations of warfighters? give them a couple child brides and a pension or a cushy position on taliban payroll, and they'll settle down into civilian lives just fine. also they'll still need an army and police force so it's not like their mujahideen suddenly have nothing to do.
I may attract rainbows like flies but even I can't obtain this level of optimism.

I have a feeling they'll declare war on someone else or sooner or later encounter government backstabbing and splinter groups because religious sects LOVE to argue.

the arguing and fracturing can often be kept under control with money and power. see: iran, saudi arabia, all the filthy rich arab emirate states, etc.

the taliban may have a hard time controlling the entire country with all its regional militias, warlords, and the resistance of ANA remnants in panjshir, but i don't think they'll succumb to infighting. they've been around for almost 30 years now, their power structure and ideology should be developed enough by now to prevent that.

The British are not hesitating in comparing us to the USSR, and the USSR comes out looking better.

Un-fucking-believable.

But the fact that Biden has chosen to campaign for the presidency without presenting any goals beyond ejecting Trump should trouble us. By choosing to conceptualise Trump as an exception to the status quo and not as a product of the status quo, he fails to recognise that the conditions to produce another Trump still exist.
Hey the guardian was actually able to scrap together two valid sentences for once.

I begin to wonder if they didn't get some help to create some memes? :cunningpepe:

Well this thread is a goldmine. Seems like being locked up in Gitmo paid dividends for their meme game.

On a side note, I am watching the movie "An American Carol" and while it was a cringe right wing movie back in the day mocking Micheal Moore, it feels like I am watching a documentary now since all the shit that the dude says like abolishing the 4th of july apparently came true last year as leftoids unironically backed that.

There also was a vice piece back in the day know as "This Is What Winning Looks Like " and looking at the comments is a gold mine.

Autistic (and probably incorrect because I don't know my ribbons for shit, and I can hardly see the picture) list of Milley's awards from top to bottom (multiple awards are ignored):

1) Defense Distinguished Service Medal - Sounds like the sort of thing a Lieutenant General receives by default (non combat).
2) Army Distinguished Service Medal - Probably a gimme for completing various commands (non combat).
3) Defense Superior Service Medal - Didn't fuck up as a senior leader medal (non combat).
4) Bronze Star - Did a good job that one time. Maybe combat related, but SERIOUSLY devalued over the last 20 years.
5) Meritorious Service Medal - Didn't fuck up as a more junior leader (non combat).
6) Army Commendation Medal - Everybody gets one of these from time to time (non combat).
7) Army Achievement Medal - Equivalent to a report card on the fridge. Everyone has at least a few of these (non combat).
8) National Defense Service Medal -EVERYONE gets this if they serve during "wartime" (not combat, non anything at all).
9) ? but probably Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal - Deploy OCONUS and you get this basically.
10) Afghanistan Campaign Medal - Deployed to Afghanistan during the war.
11) Iraq Campaign Medal - Deployed to Iraq during the war.
12) Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal - Deployed in the last 20 years basically.
13) Global War on Terrorism Service Medal - Served in the last 20 years.
14) ? Korean Defense Service Medal - Stationed in fucking Korea at some point.
15) Humanitarian Service Medal - Handed out MRE's, threw piss bottles, or looked out the window at a disaster area at some point.
16) MOTHERFUCKING ARMY SERVICE RIBBON - BADGE OF HOMOSEXUALITY FOR JOINING THE ARMY.
17) Overseas Service Ribbon - ANOTHER one for getting on a plane that one time.
18) ? - Whatever it is it ranks lower than the Army Service Ribbon.
19) Multinational Force and Observers Medal - Globohomo.

I'm probably wrong about some of these.

TLDR: The only one that MIGHT, might have value are the Bronze Stars. Everything else is just lemon drops and redundant participation awards. Awards are gay.

Pretty much any officer will get this as a deployment award even if they never see combat.

Edit:
The CIB (combat infantry badge) is supposed to only be awarded for having been in combat, but you will see political officers get it just for having had mortar strikes land within like 50 miles of the FOB they were on, while enlisted don't get it despite having actually been in combat but falling victim to a paperwork error.

Oh, it gets even worse when you REALLY look at it.

Bronze Stars have been handed out to officers showing up in a war zone since 1988. So those are basically worthless.

His CIB is worthless since he probably hid in a Green Zone long enough and they just filed the paperwork for him.

But worst, the WORST, is the fact he's been in since 1980. FORTY-ONE YEARS!

And he's done actually jack and shit for the military.

If you really want to see something, notice he's missing awards for Operation Just Cause and Operation Desert Shield/Storm.

What that tells you is fairly simple.

He avoided combat postings until everyone else was there. Just Cause was over too fucking quick for anyone to get in that wasn't sober and walking to the soda machine the morning they hit the go button and flew everyone in from all over Europe, CONUS, and Korea.

Desert Shield/Storm had the RAND Corporation and all the other think tanks claiming the first wave would get gassed along with chemical SCUDs hitting the rear command areas, as well as the US forces being terribly outnumbered.

So he avoided going, probably signed up for the mythical 'Second Wave' which was pre-staged in Europe and CONUS to go in once the first wave took massive casualties.

Basically, he avoided anything that might put a hurt on him.

He's a desk jockey, plain and simple. He's always been one. He did combat zone tourism.

41 years and he's got less real military medals than a 20 year old combat medic on her third deployment and has been less actual use to the Army than a Conex Girl.

This person who you describe, reminds me of the Monty Python skit where some British soldier complains about scary men with guns on the military base that he is stationed at, only this time, that soldier became successful.

Link to the skit here since Jewtube has probably deleted their version.

Also feels weird seeing sand people dressed up in full US Military issued gear. They look competent.
