Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

Part of a reason needed to enable the use of Emergency Use Authorization is that there are no other treatments available, so I could see them not pushing any treatments because that would (could?) take the emergency use authorization out of play.

That excuse sorta goes out the window with Pfizer vaccine being approved. Though even without that it seems like they could say a treatment that didn't cure it didn't count as enough of a treatment to avoid doing the vaccines, I mean the CDC was allowed to decide people couldn't evict people so it's not like people really cared that much what the laws were.

Doing nothing is always worse than doing something badly. People are willing to accept "I tried, but made a bad call" a lot more than "I just did nothing". The latter can be papered over by explaining why what you tried failed, and can even gain a measure of sympathy. Yes, it has limits and still usually leads to a net loss, but doing -nothing- has no method at all of recouping losses.

I apologize if late on this but I just saw that Owen Shroyer with Infowars has been arrested for January 6th activities. Here is the quote from a msn article:

"Shroyer didn’t enter the building. Rather, he’s charged with “knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority” and “violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.”

So now just being on Capitol grounds is subject for imprisonment. Also gleefully note the judges name on the link to the charges.

Not only am I prone to blood clots, AND a young woman (the sketchy period side effect freaks me out), but I legit just got covid from my dumbass brother.

They've got to send the message that such a thing won't ever be tolerated in order to tamper down any possible resistence that could form and do so on a much larger scale.

Dems do play a longer game, or factions of them do anyway. Jan 6th, to them, represents the first tiny ember of a possible bonfire. If they show that any protest, even one where you're invited into the building or simply loiter about nearby, results in heavy prison sentances and no rights, in their minds it will discourage the majority from doing anything beyond tutting and shaking their heads in their homes.

It really does represent that "causes leading to" segment of the wikipedia article to these people rather than the giant bugger all it is. Even the optics from that were a foul fuckup and swiftly hidden away for the most part. massive security railings and banning of people visiting when one of the points is to allow the people to visit such places.
