So there's this Haitian guy who's been coming in every evening lately to drop off shipments. He usually brings in ten large-sized boxes at a time. Each day he uses two full rolls of our packing tape to get everything labeled and secured, instead of I dunno, going to Office Depot and buying it himself. Refuses to let us touch anything or help out. On top of that, he's been going into the coolers nearby and taking bottled water that is meant for the employees. The first time I saw him do it, I didn't say anything because it caught me by surprise. The other day he finished up and left so I thought we were in the clear but then two minutes later comes back in and makes a beeline for the coolers as I'm standing right there. So I tell him, I'm sorry sir, those are for employees only, we are lucky we get anything at all or something of that nature. Just trying to be polite but firm.
Now, it's just a bottle of water, so what's the big deal right? Well, it's about a ten degree difference inside the warehouse vs outside and lately it's been hot and humid as fuck. Also, the company I work for is super greedy so we are really lucky to get anything and I'll bet when the pallet is gone, they won't buy more. But like, who does this? Goes into a place and starts rooting around in areas they shouldn't be and taking things not meant for them? And on top of that, I feel guilty as hell for saying something and denying a person water but he should have never put me into that position to begin with. Is it a cultural thing? Would he go into a gas station and just help himself? Honestly, he could walk into almost any fast food place and they would give him a cup of water for free if he were that desperate. So yeah, I don't know if I'm more pissed off at inconsiderate people or entitled foreigners who have been here long enough to surely know better.
I'm on vacation this week so I have no idea if he'll come back but I'd better not get in trouble over it if he tries to spin it as me being rude or something.
