It isn't so much a willingness to play along to spare someone's feelings, and more that people will begrudgingly humor trannies, because the trans community has become an aggressive, unreasonable, toxic, vicious group who will savagely attack anyone for not giving them what they want and ruin the lives of people for accidentally using the wrong word. So normal people will do their best not to offend the gender-specials, not out of any sense of human decency or respectful kindness, but because normal people have kids to support, careers to manage, mortgages to pay, and other actually important things in their real lives to concern them and they don't want their happy lives invaded and torn to shreds by a psychotic blood mob of gender-bending deviants over a simple mistake or slip of the tongue that was taken the wrong way. It's an entirely different subject versus a sane, stable, mature, respectable person who treats others with mutual decency and respect and lives their life like any one else who is otherwise normal, yet they just happen to identify as trans and don't make their entire existence and every waking moment about their trans identity, and due to them being decent, respectable, normal people in every other way and someone who treats others with respect and decency, people likewise treat them with respect, including respecting their identity and lifestyle.
Please note that the way the trans community has gone about "securing trans rights" by engaging in cancel culture, deplatforming, censorship, and other intimidation tactics all while demanding they everyone else shows them special treatment, placing them on a pedestal as an untouchable protected class, and having everything given to them from money, to housing, to luxuries, to elective cosmetic surgery without them working for it...it's all counter to the way guys, lesbians, and bisexuals went about securing their rights. Aggressively counter, not to put too fine a point on it. LGBs secured their place in society and the respect and support of normal people by showing normal people that they were just like everyone else. They work their jobs, pay their bills and taxes, spend time with their friends and loved ones, have their own hobbies and interests, and are otherwise 99% the same as heterosexual people. They just happen to be attracted sexually and fall in love with people of the same sex. LGBs won their rightful place in society and the respect and support of regular folks by being decent, respectful, upstanding people themselves and making that fact undeniable to regular folk. They didn't win it by expecting special treatment, acting superior to everyone else, behaving in an irrational and unreasonable manner, and making increasingly selfish and unreasonable demands of everyone around them as if the world owes them everything they desire simply for existing. LGBs earned the respect they're given through hard work, patience, diligence, grace, and by giving respect to others around them. The saying "Respect is earned, not given." is an old one, but it's an old saying because it's true. You can't demand respect. You can't demand validation. You can't demand that society around you give you everything you want because you identify a certain way. That's why the transgender movement is hemorrhaging support and losing credibility at an ever increasing rate. The troons swaggered right in expecting to take advantage of the literal decades of work the LGBs have done, then essentially bullied the entire LGBT community into making it all about trannies and what they want, turning the whole community savagely toxic at the same time. They have pushed too hard, too far, and too quickly. They've demanded too much while giving little to nothing of value in return. Just look at how horribly they treat so-called "trans allies". Nothing is ever good enough for them, no amount satisfies them. They demand respect (and so much more) when they haven't earned it, and have given nothing but disrespect in return. That's why this whole "trans movement" is dying out, and in a decade or two will be looked back upon with disdain and dark humor, and it will all be seen as just a fad that went too far because normal people allowed it to.
