Based on what I've seen people talking about, it's likely that it was just taken down because of the criticism. I've heard some people say that some of the animation was stolen (can't find any proof of this) and that's why it was taken down, but at the same time the lyric video is still up and that's known to have used traced art (or they're confusing the two). Stans are blaming the antis for hating on the video because "they worked hard on it" and "it meant a lot to Dream", with some hate towards the "Sus Remix" thrown into the mix as seen below. Fun fact, before Mask was privatized, the original Sus Remix video was copyright struck and taken down IIRC.
Boy, is Dream gonna be in for a ride when he realizes that ever since Mask's "Sus remix" came out, any music he releases will more than likely have a sus version of it.
If Dream really is upset about sus remixes, then sadly he's fighting a losing battle as a lot of his "friends" (Tommyinnit, some guy named Velvet, and others) have referenced the sus remix and seem to enjoy it a lot. The person I mentioned before, Velvet, apparently was asking for a sus version of his new song "Change My Clothes."

You can make something with "deep meaning" and have a lot of passion put into it. But when your execution of said thing is honestly laughable and generic, it's more than likely going to get made fun of. Especially if you're a big creator.
Also honestly, it speaks volumes that "Mask" got memed the way it did, not only by the community and "antis", but by CC's as well. Compare this to Wilbur's serious songs in his lovejoy band, or JaidenAnimations with "Empty", a song that tackles her mental health just as Mask supposedly tackles Dream's. Hell, even fellow Twitch streamer, Ludwig's corny christmas covers, or LilyPichu's music as well. Even going to bring the other mass fangirl attractor, Corpse, into this as his song that spoke about his mental health wasn't even memed. And he has about the same amount of "antis" as Dream when comparing fanbase size.
Mask is just a bad song that tries to be deep, and it's reception really shows with how the reaction has been to it, especially the ones by Dream's own group. I would say that he should see this reaction and try to better his music/singing, but I doubt that would happen if he makes another song that isn't a collab.

Good riddance.

But do you think it was privated to help his brand image, or because of copyright or something?
I'm leaning towards the first, but I've seen varied takes on this.
What copyright issue would he run into? It's def because he's trying to help his image.

Not that I can blame him, the people who animated that video were fucking god awful lol

Did the person that made the music video ever get paid? I know there was someone on Twitter claiming to have made it and never got compensated. I'd like to imagine that maybe the people involved got the mind to actually lawyer up but knowing Dream fans those dumb shits are probably thinking, "Dream must be REEEEALLY busy, I hope remembers to pay me soon XDDD"

Not going to dig up the screenshots people posted of the supposed animators acknowledging the video shortly after release, but I believe they were paid in full by the time it was published on Youtube.
It was a team of animators who were used to making Minecraft animations, which explains some of the "off" things in the video that they didn't have time to fix.

IIRC the money was paid to Phyre, who then paid the rest of the PhyreProductions team. This is pretty par for the course, since usually the client (Dream) only has direct correspondence with the project leader (Phyre) versus the whole team. Not to mention Phyre is already in charge of paying her team, since they've already released a few animations that are getting monetized.

Dream wouldn't have any liability here, since it would be between the unpaid animator and Phyre herself. Chances are the twitter user was lying for either free money or attention.

Y'know what really kills me? Some of these guys are probably older than me.

Anybody else notice how Dream's focusing less and less on Minecraft lately? I know he's already been gradually drifting away from it with his music "career" but I swear he's mentioned the game as little as possible lately. Maybe I'm just schizoposting but it just seems like he's trying to generate more mainstream appeal now.

Do you think that's a model wearing the mask or Dream's just slimmed down?
Idk, but did you hear that one of Dream's speedruns is apparently being investigated? I wonder if they'll release a video about it, that Geosquare guy did a really good job with his "Tallest Cactus" video, I'd love to hear what he has to say about it.

Well if that's his strategy, he needs to expand to something else as well because these songs I don't think are going to cut it. Joji, he is not.

His smartest strategy would be continuing with business ventures that don't involve being a youtuber or content creator, like his Shirt Hits The Fan company.

Funny shit I found on a Discord.
Such rapid and spontaneous umbrage from some internet teenager expressing doubt that they sexually identified as a Minecraft YouTuber before genderspecial shit became popular, when they were probably like 12 at the time.

If that's not an indication of falling into the lower 41% of the troon demographic, I don't know what ever could be.
