You're right, because he fell under the Military Extraterritorial Jurisdiction Act, which gives US civilian courts authority to charge military with crimes overseas. After the discovery process, the rest of his squad were court martialed due to the fact that they all still in the service. Had they still been in, they would face civilian courts as well.

But what you're talking about is comparing apples to oranges. Green was discharged, not retired. The questions were about retirees being subject to UCMJ, of which they are.

EDIT: Oh, and his squad mates were convicted, sentenced to 100 years, and 80 years (with 20 year eligible for parole)....then they are dishonorably discharged.

I genuinely think that most American civilians can, with proper guidance, outperform the US Military.

Not even that difficult, you just gotta figure out where they're going to put their outposts and get there first with a shovel and a fucklode of high explosives.

The vast majority of Western military is noncombatant and will never be in more danger than many civilian jobs and has been for years. As a modern 'soldier' you're far more likely to be shuffling paper in Germany than lugging a rifle in Sadr city. Modern american troops are mostly what would be termed in previous eras as camp followers. Actual combat is increasingly the domain of a smaller ever more elite band of operatives and robots. Enlistment is basically developing into community college/summer camp 2.0. Thats why every recruitment commercial you see nowadays emphasizes woke diversity rather than actual combat suitability.

The mainstream 'Thank you for your service' perception of the military is stuck in the Vietnam era I suppose largely due to movies and pop culture being all most people know about it. Joe and Jane Public has this weird conception that their 90lb blue eyed blonde haired daughter is dual wielding machine guns in the swamps of nam hunting for Charlie even though they obviously know thats not the case.

Still, I don’t think the military has degenerated yet to the point that some red necks with AR-15s and hunting rifles could humiliate it.

By the time the bulk of the military has gotten that bad-that such a thing would be possible, my guess is warfare will be automated enough that it won’t matter.

So some tranny lesbian pushing a button a thousand miles away could blow your house up without ever having to risk actual combat.

The main problem for the Turks is that Erdogan cleansed his military so now you have officers with die hard loyalty and no experience. Not exactly the kind of officer wqho knows how to handle combat. Plus the Kurs had all those fancy Anti-tank rokets curtesy of the Us and Nato when they fought ISIS. Imho tanks are getting the same treatment what happened to battleships of old: getting obsolete by the changing nature of warfare.

we won't see huge ass tank battles like kursk again, but i don't think tanks are going the way of the battleship or horse cavalry any time soon. they're way too effective at fucking up vehicles to be phased out like that.
