I've heard the Taliban control the airport, but there are still US soldiers on the ground, that there are still Americans left behind, but maybe not that many, and that some ex special forces guys are running in trying to save Afghani nationals. Also that we drone struck the guy responsible for the bombing (if we knew for certain who the fucker was, and where he was, why did we wait till after the attack to do something about it?)

I plowed through the highlights this morning but there's more confusion now than usual in the places I've seen covering it. One thing I did pick up was that the Afghani deaths from this weeks bombings are over 100, maybe in the hundreds overall.

I've been doing my best to pay attention to this shit near non stop but basically its a giant cluster fuck. Pentagon is contradicting on the ground sources and major news networks aren't giving real time updates but either playing old stories they worked on or doing tribute to the fallen US service members.

The US special forces story broke late last night for US afaik. The news is doubting that the drone strike actually hit a viable target which this is coming from liberal media. I didn't know where to post this but you guys should stock up on whatever imported goods you like. the distros are running empty and there's no expected recieve date. Most of it is sitting at a dock or on a boat. food is being thrown out by the container since it spoiled in the sun. anything electronic is going to be squeezed, plastic jars and containers are MIA since those get imported. The logistics failure is what's driving up prices more than inflation. I"m guessing mid-late 2022 before we start getting back on track. unless covid-22 is a killer. `

I've noticed they are using different wordings to try and sell the same lie. What you pointed out is an example of that. They want people to hear a big number and tune out but if you listen to them they've been careful to say "at the airport" when they're throwing out big numbers, and haven't really commented much on the thousands who never even got the chance to make it to the airport.
The Taliban cut off pretty much all major roads in and out of Kabul. There are thousands of Americans who can't get to the airport because they can't get past the Taliban. These people make up the bulk of Americans still there.
But as long as they can keep saying shit like "we only have 1500 Americans left to evacuate at the airport" what they're actually saying is "1500 Americans made it to the airport and still have to be picked up, please don't ask us about the other 8500~ total American civilians in Afghanistan"

In my opinion it was stupid and possibly even malicious that this story has leaked as widely as it has. Who the hell had the bright idea to make it news that this was happening? Was it the group themselves? I would hope not because announcing to multiple hostile forces (Taliban, ISIS, and any other insurgents in the area) that a spec ops rescue team is pissing around a country where they KNOW the US government no longer has a substantial presence AND when we know the Taliban have multiple drones with thermal imaging they stole from us?
If it leaked from within or near the group, holy shit these guys better have a good plan.
If it leaked otherwise - someone wants these guys hunted down and killed, I can't see why else you would openly announce to hostile forces that people who are probably already high value kill targets, are alone in their country searching for Americans and afghan allies (who, remember, Bidens state dept. gave a list of names and info about them to)

I can think of three reasons why they allowed this to leak. To give hope to everybody trapped over there, Incentive to stay in the area while they operate, and they've probably stopped using the sewer system and airport so its not 100% damaging.

As dangerous as it could possibly be to these people you have no idea how thankful and happy I was to hear someone was doing god's work over there. I think we all needed some good news for once. If this was maliciously leaked they shot themselves in the dick again.
