Living in Saint Petersburg was one of the happiest periods in my entire life - it's a proper Eurasian city (brilliantly well-planned as well) without a lot of the globo-homo BS and the cost of living is quite low by western standards. They think by voting in old men who the media tells them is good, they can save the world that the media tells them is dying. I can't respect blind idealism in people. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and I will not hold any respect for people handing them the paving stones, thinking their helping. We already crossed that point. That point was when he dropped below 50% approval.

Opinions are generally reinforced by their social circle. So consider the following:

1: Without active effort to simply maintain good approval, approval constantly ticks downwards.
2: Social circles reinforce the general opinion of a politician.
3: People remember negative experiences more than positive experiences.
4: An approval below 50% means more people dislike a politician than like them (duh)


This all combines to create an approval death spire, effectively a constant push downwards that requires a lot of effort and successful policy to pull up. Without those successes, the politician in question will hover around and rapidly return to their Floor.

A Floor in political speech is the absolute bottom of approval a politician has, in general basically it represents the hardened fanbase FOR that politician. so let's add another consideration.

5: The further from a politician's Floor they are, the faster they lose approval.


Joe's Floor is -incredibly- low, about 15-20%. As soon as he went below 50, he began the spiral towards that floor where he will now struggle to even move away from, let alone break free from.
