I can't fucking stand "on this day" or "memories" features on social media. Obviously, there's the elephant in the room where embarrassing shit I said in the past gets shoved in my face years down the line. However, there's a more philosophical reason why I take issue with this.

I like the idea of the past staying firmly within "the past." As fucking mortifying as the present day is, I hate the idea of being trapped in a fog of nostalgia for days long past. Like yeah, I'm a human being so obviously I put on the nostalgia goggles from time to time like anyone else would. There's nothing wrong with doing that once in a while.

The problem is that there's always something that I did in the past as recently as a year ago on this day or as long ago as a decade. After a while, getting the past shoved in my face gets infuriating because I'd rather live in the present. The past was my present and I firmly maintain that if I were to relive that exact day down to the minutiae of it, I'd say "Man this sucks" again just like I would today.

You know what really fucking pisses me off? How every single faction on the internet has to have some fucking smooth-brained take on women in the Islamic world. Like I don't make it a secret that I'm a sand nigger and that we left the shithole that spawned my family and I for a fucking reason. With that in mind, almost no one seems to care about the truth of the matter. It's all about furthering some fucking agenda.

If you're an "Islamophobe" or just some right-wing guy on the internet who hates terrorists, you'll readily point to all the beatings, honour killings, sex trafficking, and so on that happens in that general part of the world. In absolute fairness, I cannot defend any of that because that is a reality that happens. With that in mind, beatings and sex trafficking still happen in other parts of the world. This is a shame that all nations in the world must deal with, and it speaks volumes that Islamic nations have dealt with it so poorly. However, he who lives in a glass house shouldn't be the first to cast stones.

If you're from Al Jazeera, you're more than likely going to point out how sex trafficking and sex crimes have been on the rise in India and Pakistan while completely ignoring the fucking brothels and rapes that happen to migrant women in Bahrain and Qatar. Al Jazeera is infamous for reporting on sex crimes and women's rights in countries that the House of Thani have particular agendas against.

If you're Milo Yianniwhateverthefuck, you'll post some disingenuous photos of Afghan women wearing miniskirts in the 60s contrasting against Pathan women wearing burqas in Afghanistan. Never mind the fact that miniskirts were limited to the elite ruling class of Afghanistan at the time and that most of the population was still agrarian and conservative at the time.

If you're the admin of some fucking Salafist meme page, you'll be unrepentant and post MEMRI memes of beating women and Chad memes making jokes about having four wives. Like it's funny to a point, but there comes a time when you realise "oh my God, these people are actually fucking serious." Never mind the fact that polygamy in Islam is a hotly contested subject. Never mind the fact that polygamy in practice in most Islamic countries is heavily frowned upon. Never mind the fact that there are extreme stipulations placed upon the male who chooses to have four wives in accordance with shariah, etc.

Once again: I am not undermining any of the issues facing women in the Islamic world. There are genuinely horrifying things that happen out there and I can't even begin to fathom the reality that such women have to live with. With all of that in mind, the reality on the ground is extremely complex and it's fucking disingenuous as shit to say that all women in the Islamic world are treated like slaves who live under some patriarchal tyranny.

The black in Athenian and Corinthian ware pots, like the red, is an intrinsic part of the fabric of the pottery and cannot be washed off. Some pots did figure white, but this was a paint. All you could ever do by scrubbing Greek pots is to remove white in favor of red and black.

I see this a lot with musicians. When Lemmy from Motorhead died, everyone and their grandmother seemed to come out of the woodwork to say they were huge fans. And I'm sure some were, but because I'm cynical I assumed many were just posturing and couldn't name a single Motorhead song aside from Ace of Spades.
