it really depends. Out of pocket is very expensive for good insurance. Cheap insurance is dog shit. If you have a good job it'll include good insurance. Then it depends where you live for quality doctors. The best doctors always live in rich white areas.
Contrary to popular belief, there is free government health care for deadbeats. It's good for basic stuff but you're fucked if you need something complex.

Based on what I've observed most medical aliments that aren't critical (like Jim's illness) get swept under the rug and take years to resolve. This would explain why Jim is still claiming he's inflicted, without a resolution.

Apr: New prescription for symptom
May: Test Scheduled at 3rd party in two weeks
June: New prescription
July: Lab test
Aug: Lab test
Sept: Blood test

Nov: Referral to another specialist
Dec: Visit with new specialist
Jan Blood test with original specialist
It can take years to reach a diagnosis if you even receive one. Mayo clinic can expedite this by scheduling visits with multiple specialists and same day tests. With something slow like a non-hodgkin lymphoma, it may be a few months unless you are aggressive with the doctors. You have to be your own medical advocate and aggressive.
