The thing is IQ as a measurement for intelligence is very flawed as it does not take into account things like creative ability or emotional intelligence etc. and mostly is just pure reasoning, memorization and logic if current tests are involved.

That being said, IQ is a serviceable indicator for cognitive abilities but only in the setting it portrays via it's questioning. Those logic tasks are easier to standardize than say being able to draw a gorgeous picture, write an engaging text, picking up the correlation of a term between two foreign languages etc.

In general, having high cognitive abilities/IQ does not guarantee a thing, if it isn't discovered/nurtured in a proper setting. It is easier to excel academically in some cases, but at the same time an individual could be bored with the slow pace and basically switch off/stop trying, especially if a school system or parents don't allow for the freedom to grow one's talents because they don't see them or don't care.

That detour aside, one can be intelligent but an absolute retard at the same time. Which for me is Digi in a nutshell. His emotional baggage, arrested development, refusal to admit failures and errors and drug abuse destroy any semblance of logic he could ever put to use and hinder his writing ability, steering it away from growing, but rather regressing, as he currently tends to only do things relating to himself, projecting himself into every idea iE 'The character once wore lipstick as a gag, ergo this whole show is actually about being trans, just like me, being a girl all along.'

Don also tried to bring up The Variety of Religious Experience (an actual intellectual achievement, which I read and was referring to in my earlier post) and just gave up after getting shouted over. Anyone with basic human empathy would have seen that Don was having a moment and needed to be reassured.

Yeah, and when you add in things like his lack of interest in people and risk-taking, you end up with an extremely male mind. If you looked for other people with his combination of traits and interests (which splits along gender lines far more cleanly than traits in isolation) I doubt more than one in a thousand would be biologically female.

Yes it was, and I think I have to walk back what I said a bit. I listened to this back when it dropped and had remembered being pissed, but it was probably more directed at Ash (whom I find insufferable), with me shifting blame to Digi as my opinion on him soured over time. Digi is still kind of being a dolt here, but it is not as bad as I remembered, although I still stand by my point in general. I guess that's why archiving is important.

The section I remembered is near the end, starting around 3:23, if any one cares.

Holy shit, the SAME Don Jolly who did this guest appearance video with Sam Hyde?:

Yeah. Don was a big deal for a while on Digi's channel (honestly surprised someone here didn't know that). A fan recommended Don's channel and Digi covered it in that "Goin' Underground" video (maybe the last good video he ever made) before Don reached out and they hit it off. Don was killing it for a while, and several of my all time favorite videos came out on his channel during the period between him meeting Digi and Covid.

Unfortunately, Don suffered a death in the family which he had to help manage the fallout of, as well as a series of smaller troubles, and mostly disappeared from the internet earlier this year. I suspect getting the patronage of a massive YouTuber whom he was a fan of, only for them to stop existing, might have been a factor; but apparently bitterness is clouding my memory, so take that with a grain of salt.

If you haven't seen any of his stuff, I'd highly recommend checking it out. His D23 vid was the breakout hit, but most are really good.

By the time Digi was really losing their shit, Don had already been AWOL for a while, so it wasn't entirely a choice. Although it's still true that Digi horribly underutilized Don when he was around (those two doing a podcast with actual good guests would have blown the PCP to shit).

When the Void crew were tweeting about driving through Texas (I think on the way to Elko after losing the home in Virginia Beach) I was praying that they weren't going to try to drag Don into their bullshit, and luckily it didn't happen.

The worst part of that final part of that stream for me was when Jolly left; none of them contemplated about what Jolly meant in his point about NPCs and Digi and May instead sprouted incoherent conspiracy nonsense about Bill Gates and vaccines. Listening to that enforces the theory that May was indeed reasonable for Digi becoming increasingly imbecilic.

Tbf, Don only really appeared on Digi's channel in late 2019, shortly before he went full retard. I only knew of Don via Sam Hyde, I had no idea until now that he worked with Digi (albeit briefly).
