Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? What makes me upset about this is that, for most people supporting this, it comes down to... new food. A majority of these don't even mention anything else (and yeah, I'm counting "new neighbors" and "for starters" as mentioning other things, I am scraping this damn barrel), and that makes me sad. It's not even about offering them a chance at a new life, or making new friends with very different cultural experiences, or seeing what wonders their children will make with the freedom and opportunity America provides. Imagine, their child coming home with a new best friend or boy/girlfriend who was born in Kabul or Kandahar or somewhere else exciting! Imagine, a BBQ with neighbors who see clear blue sunny skies very differently than you do! Because I don't think they are! I think that, for them, it's about shoving something slightly different in their maw and being able to more readily consume something different, having a new underclass for them to kindly exploit as much as possible in their endless pursuit of consumption.

At least the people wondering about what it could mean are considering all the possibilities. Even assuming everyone involved has good intentions and enough resources to make it feasible, it's still not easy to start a new life somewhere, especially not when you're fleeing a war from several thousands of miles away, and it's not always easy for a community to adapt. And as well-intended as these commentators might be, they're reducing these survivors to a new variety of funko-pop or fast food sensation. To cooks and chefs and waitstaff willing to entertain safely from behind a kitchen or with the subtle threat of losing the business of their new, "enlightened" clientele looming over their every interaction and making them a safe other to entertain their new neighbors.

Fuck me. I'm sorry, that got a bit out of hand. But it pisses me off to see people reduced to means to an end like this. Everybody deserves better than that.

Why is anyone surprised? For all my shittalking, Mexicans are really much smarter about their government than us. Nearly every Mexican knows the government is made up of crooks and liars, they ones that don't are either under the age or 1, over 100 or so profoundly retarded they don't know they're in Mexico. That's where we're headed, to become like Mexico unless some serious shit happens. And I don't know, we're not Mexicans so maybe there's hope for us yet, since we haven't been beaten and ground down. There's a catch to this tho, the reason why most Mexicans don't bother protesting the government is that they actually suck ass at governing, not just from a "they are corrupt" standpoint but from the "enforcing the law" point.
The Mexican government is ABSURDLY incompetent at actually tracking down and punishing non-violent crimes, they can't even be bothered to collect taxes from people who self-employ most of the time, this allows for most of the low and middle class population to just do whatever they want and make a living however they see fit with very little government fuckery which is the big difference between the USA and Mexico governments.

The next months, the next years, will see a constant influx of information. This information will be eaten up by the voracious appetites of the general populace who took interest in this. This does fade with time, the problem is that it's time on a cooldown. Every bit of new info, every person killed publically by the Taliban, every dog lost, every bit of bad news resets that cooldown. Until there is a long stretch, usually about two years, of no information... the public will not only remember it, but they will also grow angrier with every new thing.

The optimism period is gone, now there is only damage.

Joe Biden is a disgrace, but I'm taking a lesson from the TDS sufferers and not getting my hopes up that there will be lasting consequences.

I think this is truly different than any of the manufactured Trump crises during his presidency, but Biden has the benefit of being ideologically aligned with the same people that hold a stranglehold on nearly every US institution, so even if the people wake up, it's much more of an uphill battle.

I also do not believe for a second that only 200-300 Americans trying to get out were left behind. And even if that is the accurate number, a sane country would see that alone as reason enough to impeach Biden.
