Philosophy Tube / Oliver Lennard / Oliver "Olly" Thorn / Abigail Thorn - Breadtube's Patrick Bateman.

Didn't realise this picture would be shared so much. I screencapped it just to point out that at this exact moment, you can feel the narc rage bubbling up at the fact Nigella didn't appear in his YouTube production(tm).

My main takeaway from that video was all the stuff about what different philosophers thought about the ability to have empirical or subjective knowledge of the self was irrelevant. If Ollie had skipped the "philosopher x thought this, but philosopher y thought this" segment and gone directly to the concept of subjectivities of the self, the video would have been better. Although the overall argument that calories are a modern technology of subjugating completely disregards that people (especially women) have always been judged for being overweight - olden days might have liked a bit more meat on the bones, but truly fat people have been the subject of derision throughout history in most cultures, and it was well known that overindulgence was bad for you and considered a moral failing (which Ollie even acknowleges with references to Kellogg's "reducing" treatments or Sylvester Graham's lectures on gluttony).

The gimmick of Ollie being a Stepford Wife and glitching out/slowly fading into colour only to repress it really didn't work. The glitches were pretty arbitrary and unrelated to what was actually being said, and only took me out of the viewing experience. The "Nigella Lawson cutout horror movie closeups" were also something that didn't tie into the video at all, since Nigella's argument that indulgence is good backs up what Ollie's saying.

I'd also note that the whole "fear" of eating a slice of cake on camera came across as wholly contrived. Same with the "candid" bursting out laughing. Frankly it really feels like Ollie took notes on "things Contra does" without really understanding why Contra employs these sorts of things.
No need to be disappointed, I doubt Nigella watched it - her PR agent probably told her to tweet that because someone had made a video referencing her.

Poppy seeds are such a basic addition to a lemon drizzle cake that they're actually included by default in some recipes, except they're usually mixed into the batter before baking. Sprinkling them on top of the baked cake just means you'll be crunching through them when you have a slice (not to mention the fact that a lemon drizzle cake is supposed to have a visible drizzle, rather than just pouring elderflower cordial over it and then adding powdered sugar. That cake looked very mediocre).

Yeah, contra laughs cos she's said something thats made her laugh; olly laughs cos he's seen contra laugh and is desperate to know why people who like her get the ick from him . He did another line which was clearly lifted straight from his list of 'other stuff contra does that i havent copied yet' for this video.

NL's comment- LOL. 'thought provoking' is such a safe thing to say. you go to a friends show which is shit and you say it was 'interesting'. the video, ironically, was if anything not thought provoking in the slightest. it repeated well worn woke standards about food and diet culture, with a few little philosophical concepts tacked on because he's worried that he needs to actually keep his philosophy angle so he doesnt show to be as shallow as he now is.

I honestly coudlnt watch this one through though, so have nothing to say on it.
Other than, his little lie where he pretends to have an issue with eating the cake...that will be totted up.

All these little things are being subconsciously counted in the heads of his current fans, and when he falls, whatever triggers it, it will all click, and all of these deceptions one after the other will present a constant, ramping up tally of shit behaviour.

It might not even be anything dramatic, his downfall...it might fizzle rather than boom and burn out. there might not be some big dramatic cancelling, but slowly all these little things are grating on more and more people. Might even be better that way - being cancelled is its own power, as it offers the path of martyrdom, bouncing back.
Thought I would love to see a melt down, it would still be attention and would offer him a life line, so its probably better to actually stop seeing his mug that he just peters out, one revulsed by narcissism, aging out of being an idiot, ex-paypig at a time.

Let’s not debate Covid here.

Could be subtweeting the trans princess and calling in to question the concept of “terf island.” But it’s all so stupid anyway, America, Britian, virtually anywhere in Europe - gays and troons are pretty much lauded and praised universally in all of them.

Oops aughtist beat me to it!

Those polls just indicate that the French don't give a shit about how others see them, while everyone else is giving politically correct answers. The frogs may be rude assholes but they're honest. It's real easy to say you'll support something on some dumb poll until it's your brother, father, or wife trooning out and reality hits that they've lost their minds.

Who knows if Contra’s even happened. But I guess this is part of being a troon? It’s like if someone told me I look like a supermodel. I would know they were being kind or joking or being facetious. I wouldn’t turn around and say, “see, I’m a supermodel!”

I think Olly’s comment was probably trolling or a joke and Contra’s person must have been trying to flatter or else they need their eye sight checked. Cause yeah I’m sure tons of six foot women who are balding come in to transition into men….

I mean most of us have only ever seen photos of Contra. Imagine him walking up to your receptionist desk, straining your neck to look up at his male height, male frame, male hands, and concluding this is a woman.

Yeah, Ollie's main issue is that he has to get a gender certificate to get married as a woman, but he can still marry he wants anyone right now and change his gender later. Which seems fair enough because there's legal differences between a man and a woman getting married and two women getting married (although that only really applies to religious marriage or civil partnerships, but not to civil marriage). As per the other YouGov survey most Brits agree that someone trans should have to live as their desired gender for two years and get a doctor's approval before changing their legal gender.

Same deal with "segregated healthcare system". I know it keeps getting repeated but it's like saying someone with cancer has a "segregated healthcare system" because they have to go see an oncologist instead of just having their GP attempt to treat the cancer.

Ollie parrots a lot of American talking points, with little examination of how they're specific to the UK. There's not much research into trans people in the UK specifically with regards to poverty. The largest study of trans people in the UK ever undertaken was the "Trans Mental Health Study 2012" by the Scottish Transgender Alliance, which revealed 58% of trans people in the UK have a disability or chronic health condition and 18% were carers. 19% of trans people claim to have an undiagnosed eating disorder while 5% have a diagnosed one, and 62% of trans people in the UK have an alcohol problem (compared to 29% of cis women) while 25% abuse drugs. 84% have considered suicide and 50% have attempted suicide.

They could argue some of these are symptomatic of being subjected to transphobia, but either way it does seem to suggest that a bunch of suicidal drunk drug addicts with chronic health issues might be experiencing elevated poverty rates due to that over something innate to being trans.
