I do like people melting down on Twatter acting like this somehow makes abortion illegal. First off most of them live in Democrat ran shitholes where you will still get your abortions up to the third trimester. Second of all, you still have around 6 weeks to get an abortion, so if you are having unprotected sex and not on birth control or the morning after pill and you don't want a kid, you should probably test yourself sooner so you can have an abortion.

Not how it works, but anyone who thinks it does is easily forgiven. Short version of why though: Impeachments are always a big show, one that every American tunes into. Americans like a winner. Losing at the Impeachment shows you are a loser and therefore Americans don't like you. The actual merit of the impeachment is secondary to whether you win or lose it for your long-term popularity effects.

The Right to Choose is a losing subject, but not a -strong- subject. Americans broadly support it, but a mixture of Democrat overreach and a lack of personal investment means feelings for moderates tend to not be terribly strong in that support. I.E. it doesn't drive turnout.
The one exception is if/when there is a supreme court justice nomination. Which tends to significantly drive Left-wing turnout around this issue. Though notably, it'd need to be one of the Conservative Justices being replaced, given the current makeup.

As someone not super invested in this, most women don't know they are pregnant until they miss a period, and a lot of women have very inconsistent periods that being a week late isn't out of the ordinary. So, that gives the majority of people a 1-2 week window to recognize they might be pregnant, test themselves, and end the pregnancy. It won't illegalize all abortions, but it'll make getting a legal one very difficult, and something you have to be extremely proactive to catch.

It was so sweeping, so overly broad, it became a rallying cry for the right on fairly legitimate grounds and actually set back reproductive rights for... as long as it exists.

The trimester thing is not developmentally relevant. The Texas bill depends on the medical definition of a heartbeat, so these polls need to stop using trimesters as the measuring stick to gauge people's opinions.
I think @Gehenna is right; there are simply too many fires right now for Dems to focus on marshalling opposition to this. When it reaches the SCOTUS (as it's scheduled to with a Mississippi case), it will get much louder, but Biden is hamstrung and Dems in Congress won't be able to get it together. If it makes politics even a little more local, that's a good thing.

It gets better, the end of the second and beginning of the third implies that the School board is going to inform the children, very explicitly, that they can totally report teachers and for what.
