subs shouldnt be about what you can get, its if you wanna support someone
Kind of exceptional to be fair, but also on YouTube's part not just Phil's.
When I give money to something it's always about what I will get for said money. I can give Phil a fiver and get fuck all that I didn't already have for free, or I can exchange my fiver for a nice coffee or tea.
Phil does nothing with his members and even if you become a member you are still expected to give more money. So you pay to be asked to pay even more.

Honestly Phil is the human equivalent of a gacha game. You can "enjoy" his content for free, but he expects you to pay a few quid here, a few there, oh mate don't forget to renew your memberships. Fuck me lads, some things changed now you need to pay more but it's just a bit more so don't worry about it. Oh you know, if you can give me a tenner I will wear this hat for you and you can unlock my vest we're only a measly 20£ off.
Even his polls are the same as loot boxes because you vote against other retards, so at the end of the day what you get is in a way random. His exceptional marathons are like ingame events where you pay to get exclusive content, example Halloween or Christmas. Every stupid made up drama he has from save the house, taxes or bankruptcy is just a season change where the story gets an update and we get some new mechanics in the form of tip goals.

Fuck me what am I doing with my life.

So what you’re saying is that I should give Phil some money for a few hours of entertainment?

Ok! Will do!

EDIT: What are y’all thoughts on today’s prestreams? Did he get all the salt put yesterday, or can we look forward to Phil ranting about “shitheads” and lecturing peepul on food prep?!

The membership rant on Monday has already been discussed to death but there is just so much going on there that warrants analysis. Like a complex, fine wine.

DSP scolded his viewers for being concerned about the 'net benefits' of becoming a member. The memberships are a means to support him, everything else is gravy. But every single stream DSP will remind his viewers that tipping is the best way to support him right now, as those funds are available immediately to pay for his bills, groceries, and supplies for his son. In fact, he has discouraged other forms of contributions in the past in favor of tipping and shamed people for superchatting. So what exactly is the point of memberships then? People who want to support DSP can just tip him. He gets a bigger cut and gets the money right away.

I have no idea why he is shilling memberships other than because he used to have a sub goal on Twitch which is something he just copied from other streamers. He's put precisely 0 thought into his business plan. Phil, when you eventually get around to reading this on Khet's birthday I want you to ask yourself: 'what is the point of having multiple ways to monetize your fanbase?' Why bother having memberships, tips, superchats, merch, and Patreon if the singular purpose of all of these is the same? Do you have a reason for offering all these means of support other than because other streamers do?

Mature adults (with or without business degrees) know that their fans want something in exchange for their support. So each of these offerings provide different benefits, and those benefits matter. They are not an afterthought, they are not incidental. Some people want t-shirts, some people want recognition in chat, some people want behind the scenes information or sneak-peaks on upcoming projects, and some people want to connect and engage with other fans. Each method of support should offer something slightly different so that all of your fans have a way to contribute that makes them feel good. And it also allows you to double/triple/quadruple dip: a super fan will become a member, pledge to Patreon, buy your merch, and tip because the rewards are all different.

Either put the bare minimum amount of effort into your offerings or just say 'fuck it' and make everything about tips. Special events can be paywalled behind a monthly total tips goals. Add stretch goals for tips during marathon or special event streams so whales can unlock overtime or multiplayer sessions. If memberships are going to be a largely pointless alternative method of support, then stop shilling them. They suck, your fans know this.

If by your grace, supporting a content creator you liked was your goal; membership is the most inefficient way of doing that. Even DSP relentlessly points out that tips are the most efficient way to support him-- in which the platform gets the smallest cut. Membership/subs are the way in which the platform takes the largest cut, so him being so upset about memberships makes it pretty clear that it's all about ego.

And replies broke the moment Null went on vacation for a week...

I watched this fantastic anleet video and got 2 things to point out.

1. He said the subs shouldnt be about what you can get, its if you wanna support someone and if you get a benefit out of it, thats icing on the cake. This is sooo stupid, it kinda hurts.
2. He said that he didnt even record that segment monday but if you watch it, you watch drama content... which is... his content, unedited. Okay.

EDIT: my fukin grammar.
why didnt he record the segment monday? i thought he was a real raw unedited guy. and he even says so himself that he said nothing wrong, he said everything correct so why not showcase it. i mean why not upload it? unless it makes you look like an fkin retarded clown moron? which he isnt. everything in that raw rant was pure fkin wisdom straight from the mouth of god

I think he’s shilling the memberships because reality is kicking in. He’s vastly supported tip wise by a minority of whales…it’s always been that way. He hasn’t had to acknowledge or dig deep into this phenomenon because he’s always had gifted subs to back it up. It would make sense for these whales to just tip more…to make up for the no gifting on YouTube…it’s money, so why the hell not? I’m spitballing here…but without the option to gift subs…some of these whales are starting to realize just how cringe the amount of tipping they do actually is. With gifting…there’s always the chance it’ll eventually turn into a re sub. Idk…it’s a theory

Not to rain on our detractor mentally ill parade here but I would like to attempt to put some reality and history here.
Yes, it is very exciting and funny that Phil cannot raise $150 per stream, thus missing his tips goal. We get laugh, eat more food, and watch Phil get mad.
However, Phil still hits $100 a day usually. Which was enough for him to put on a vest and declare victory all last year. I know he lost his Twitch revenue but it still disturbs me that whales basically keep his vest streak somewhat alive.
I remember in 2018 and 2019, it wasn’t uncommon for Phil to go days without getting over $40 on a stream. So when I see him making $120, it makes me sigh and wish for the old days. But those days are long ago and far away as long as Phil’s whales remain.
All I know is if Phil goes back to only getting $50 a stream, that is when we will get true entertainment!!
We, the detractor, mentally ill, mouth drooling, sick in the head, basement dwelling, Fanta drinkers, are now engaged in the long war. The trenches are deep and complex, but we ain’t moving, we just gotta stare down Phil and his whales, and see who blinks first.

And it also allows you to double/triple/quadruple dip: a super fan will become a member, pledge to Patreon, buy your merch, and tip because the rewards are all different.

Either put the bare minimum amount of effort into your offerings or just say 'fuck it' and make everything about tips.

I see you’re writing an interesting fanfic about an older streamer, using his intelligence, common sense and business degree to maximize his profits, make smart decisions and extend his longevity.

However, you seem to have taken the wrong turn somewhere and ended up in the DSP sub forum...

Ah yes, and that’s how Phil ended up in massive credit card debt. That’s not a possibility today though, so 50$ streams will make him extra salty.

If it’s any consolation, Phil will ALWAYS remember the 300$ a day times and NOT the 30-50$ streams. So even if he makes 100$ a day, he will seethe and rage and beg, because in Phil’s mind, since he used to make hundreds a day, people OWE him that money. So PAY UP! HE HAS BILLS TO PAY!

He really missed another opportunity with the dictator hat. He could have rebranded himself as the DPRK of gaming (Pig Jong-Un, har har har), while referring to his viewers as his people. There's plenty of old soviet posters he could use as inspiration for his new branding. But nope, Mr. "REAL RAW GAMEPLAY TAKE ME SERIOUSLY IM NOT A NAZI ABLOO BLOO BLOO" can't have that, because its work, even if it would be fun and it would rake in more money.

He did do it accidentally, though, a bit after 1:50 in this video (Courtesy of Stroke Face II Turbo, but for some reason quoting didn't seem to embed the video), I was surprised no-one picked up on it.

@Nigel of Ukip

I scream the same at myself nightly as I close the Brave tab to this forum.

Guys, guys... You could be Phil: Married to a horse and forever forced to whip retards into giving you money and playing games you hate for hours every day.

The man is living a hellish, autistic version of Groundhog Day, But is blessed with being too dumb to realize it.

(Fuck, you could be Chris!)

EDIT: BTW, Phil is right when it comes to one point: His streams are hard to find, YouTube’s algorithm is a hardcore detractor.

Just try to google: “Darksydephil stream” for a good chuckle!

Is Snowkarl right when he says it’s partly his own fault for privating his old streams immediately? Or is Snowkarl just a Morahn who doesn’t know what he’s talking about?

"it wasn’t uncommon for Phil to go days without getting over $40 on a stream" @PyroAlert

$40 in tips, maybe, but he was getting subs and bits then too. The question is what the overall take is. I think he's still currently managing to maintain his monthly earnings, but because he's getting a majority of it in tips, he has to try and fight the urge (unsuccessfully, I would bet) to immediately piss that money away on stuff like WWE Champions. The monthly Twitch payment was more or less his failsafe to cover the main recurring bills (mortgage, utilities, etc). That has maybe reduced a little bit, so now he's scrambling more often.

No, he's not. He says allottapeephole say they can't find it. If they know him enough to be able to make that comment at all, then they know the name of his channel and it comes right up when you search dspgaming. It's just more cope.
