Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

Just watch out for fever and muscle cramps. Or shortness of breath.

Then again it seems to affect everyone differently. I know some people who lost their sense of taste, but not me.

I did (taste and smell loss) just a little bit. I was working from home pulling incredible hour totals while feeling like death on a biscuit. That was a rough couple of weeks. I'm older and a bit overweight but otherwise very healthy. For me, it was just a gnarly flu.

But, according to the CDC numbers; if you have a comorbidity the recovery rate is a paltry 99.96%. It's slightly less egregious without a comorbidity being 99.998%.*

But remember kids, if you refuse to get a vaccine or wear a mask, your intent on murdering grandma.

*Note - Calculations based on total number of deaths divided by total number of cases running from 1JAN2020 - 1JAN2021 and broken down by those with comorbidity (including trauma while infected) and those without.

Interestingly, the numbers since the vaccines have been available vary very little as far as infection rates and deaths. While the UK reports a 0.2% mortality by adverse reaction cases amongst the vaccinated. So twice as likely to die from the vaccine than from COVID?

I really wanted to reply to @EriMin, but I can't, so sorry this is just floating out in the ether.

Perhaps the most interesting thing to me about Weeb Wars is how many of Vic's fans have stepped forward to say they were the one in such-and-such photo, or they were present during some contested event. As far as I can tell there's zero reward (and quite a bit of risk) to doing this. The only benefit I could think of is that they might get to see Vic at cons again if Monica/Ron/etc stop trying to get him cancelled from everything. That's seriously the only 'prize' I see here for anyone who's pro-Vic.

Conversely most of KickVic appears to be on board for some sort of personal benefit; they're chasing Twitter buttpats and clout, or trying to get an article about them in the news, or they've been involved in every major 'culture war' event and are looking to collect another scalp. I could keep going when it comes to listing reasons why someone would benefit from trying to get Vic cancelled.

I don't know why it fascinates me, but it does. The people with the most to lose and the least to gain are the ones doing their best to 'play fair'. The people getting tangible benefits from their crusade are willing to lie, cheat, and steal to keep them coming. There's probably some profound statement on human nature there, but I'm too tired to make it. lol.

Is the reply function broken? Weird.

Anyway, it's just the standard cancel culture shit. The cancelers have all the power and none of the consequences. And since they're all dirt poor (Armzgurl, Manjawlo, Renfamous) someone who's been harmed by them can't sue them because you can't squeeze dollars out of blubber. So they can harm you for tens of thousands of dollars, but you can't recover any of it because they literally have nothing of value.

There's another figure in Weeb Wars, not as big as Vic, and relatively new. Quinton Flynn. Some crazy stalker chick named Kristen Rubin, using the twitter account @BewareQFlynn organized a cancel campaign. He's been since canceled and recasted in a handful of roles.

He pursued a restraining order against Rubin, and was awarded one.

In fact, it appears Rubin violated her restraining order and is going to Indiana criminal court for it. First court date is September 17th. There's still movements to get Flynn canceled.

Ah, yes. I had been checking out the Twitter struggle snuggle about Quinton since it keeps cropping up in this thread. Pardon if this is an ignorant question, but will the Quinton saga and players get folded into Weeb Wars, or has Weeb Wars been determined to be Vic-specific?

It just seems to me that they're both court cases worth watching and regard such similar matters that they could be combined in order to more effectively follow both.

I'm still in awe of all this considering that voice generation software is on the verge of putting ALL of these people out of business in the next 10-20 years. I can elaborate on specific software/software features if you guys want (this is the price I pay for living with an entry level game dev), but yeah... dogs fighting over scraps, man. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of what's going on behind the scenes of these cancelings is that the pool of jobs is shrinking and everyone's gotten cut throat.

I've noticed that too about the reply option not showing for some post. Social media has destroyed every fandom,Angry fringe social rejects who think everything should reflect their feelings, protect their ego & parrot their views. Instead of ignoring these degenerate entitled crybabies (most of whom don't spent money on what they are cancelling anyways) companies get scared and cater to them, often alienating core fans and hurting their own business. Instead of realizing they fucked up, they hire these SJWS who in turn double down.

@contradiction of terns Please do elaborate on the specific software/software features, I've been curious about stuff like this since I first heard about Adobe Voco.

Tech nerd went to sleep. If I'm lucky I can get them to stop being an assmongler long enough to log into their damn account and explain it themselves. If not then I'll get you a full list of links to everything and software specifics. In the meantime I'll paraphrase what they said as best I can. Whatever the most recently released software is, it's capable of taking text and turning it into a voice, which the user can then adjust a variety of parameters on. The parameters include pitch, intonation, etc. So it's possible to get an almost realistic voice, and it's gotten close enough that some major game studios are looking to move over to entirely artificial voice casts.

They said some stuff about the Bojack Horseman joke where they scanned Bojack and computer generated him for the last part of a movie he was supposed to be in (but had ditched on) was going to be real soon as well. It was a pretty grim forecast for acting in general, voice or no, and my understanding is that voice acting is the only work a lot of actors can get due to advances in CGI (and now COVID).

@contradiction of terns I believe it was thought that the Vic situation would be a grander campaign into the SJW infiltration of the anime community, since The Broken Staircase List was a thing. And with Flynn, this looks to be the case.

Where is this 'Broken Staircase List'? Basically, treat me like a feral raccoon just wandered in off the street and you have to get them up to speed on what's going on. If you want you can PM me; I don't bite. I'm also not picky or lazy; if you know the general page number I'll go read all the pages in that section of the thread.

Also, lol random, but uh... did I dream that there was a thread about Zeroresurrected or is that real?

It looks like the replies are broken for select users. I know I can't reply to @Not A Bug either. Neither him or Terns are speds so I dunno what's up.

@contradiction of terns
Surprisingly I don't see an extreme overlap between the people gunning for gay pants man and Flynn. I don't think Manjawlo or Armzgurl or any of the Funi VAs have gone after Flynn in any appreciable manner.

Flynn's case is interesting because there's actually criminal charges being filed... and they're not against Flynn. They're against the crazy stalker chick who helped cancel him.

It might end up a gaiden side chapter, much like Todd Haberkorn vs. Jessie Pridemore, in that it's peripherally related to cancel culture in weeb shit, but ultimately not directly connected to Vic. And I think right now the main topic of Weeb Wars is Vig Lasagna.

Will that change once this case is decided, one way or another? Probably.

Speaking of which, today is the day of f5, albeit in about 20 hours.

@contradiction of terns About Quinton Flynn, there is a lot of crossover between the people who want him canceled and KickVic.
The main instigator, Kristen "Krissy Rose" Rubin, was part of the KickVic bandwagon and most certainly took her legal cues from LawTwitter.
She got BTFO'd in court for her troubles.
Here's the Quinton Flynn thread:

As for the Zero thread, it was created in 2017 but the OP was poor and was closed shortly after.
I asked one of the higher-ups to move the thread to this subforum and I reopened it to move his new dox into it:

The Broken Staircase (the document itself is an attachment to the OP of this thread) is a list that was maintained by an anonymous person that contained the list of those deemed "problematic" in the anime convention scene. It's pretty much a list of those who should be canceled in the eyes of "the community": some legitimate, some based on rumor and inuendo.

"That and they don't always work. Look what happened to the people who came forward against Quinton Flynn. The judge didn't declare him innocent or guilty but instead ordered the victims to delete their social media. Even though he also admitted to being a creep."
