Also, Roberts is a glory hound obsessed with his own headline and "place in history" and the backlash he received for "ruining democracy" by way of the Citizens United ruling and it's implication on elections, has made it so that he's explicitly stabbed the other conservative justices in the back and sided with the Democrats in all subsequent major cases, in desperate hope that if he does so, that history will "FORGET" Citizens United in their texts or at the very least, explicitly avoid naming Roberts by name as "worst SCJ ever, worse than even Tawny".

This is more likely IMO, but even then it probably won't happen given it'll suck all the oxygen away and leave Biden looking innocent. The smart Republicans rightfully won't want to push this right now as it changes the public narrative and the competing administration cliques are currently fighting it out to determine who will take the fall (and who the RINOs will then jump at as prey).

Everything now is pretty much being set around the midterms so any further developments are very likely to fall on that timeline. We are in for the long haul at this point.

It should also be noted that Biden (or his clique) MIGHT jump rather than be pushed, if the Democrats lose the midterms to avoid the disgrace of impeachment. Not to mention, Biden's probably spiteful enough that he will EXPLICITLY quit as President several weeks, if not even one fucking day, if he feels particularly spiteful and malicious, to deny Kamala the dream of a decade long (two years and two terms on top of it) Presidency if forced out.

I can't find a great source on it, but it's largely a meat shortage via a feed grain shortage. They started the Clean Plate Initiative almost a year ago, which involved halving portion sizes at restaurants and using social pressure to encourage eating less and wasting nothing. That initiative has worked to prevent a national emergency, but they've been rationing for nearly a year in some provinces, while others have moved back to full portions. Considering that meat prices are like 4x higher in China right now, they'd probably pay out the nose for that corn/soy.

But China buys a shitload of meat from the USA, as well. Improving the national diet has been a big priority for the Xi regime, as people's incomes and expectations have increased. Must admit I was very surprised to hear of any sort of food issues, much less rationing.

That also tells me if we didn't sell food to China they could be in quite a fix, depending on what they could buy from the rest of the world. Not many places produce the surpluses of food that would meet China's needs.

For any gun nuts here, how does the maintenance of the AK platform compare to the AR platform? Like ease of cleaning the barrel and opening the gun to clear carbon buildup and oiling it up.

Throwing in my two cents as an AR guy (bite me, Herrera), most of them are probably better off with their old AKs. As others have said, the AK was designed to be maintained and operated by starving literal retards in the Red Army. In the early days of the war, some of our guys would come back with stories of Afghans cleaning their guns with shoelaces and motor oil and they'd still run just fine.

People mention the AK is less accurate, but that's really only a factor at ranges far outside what a normal (ie non-goatfucker) shooter would be shooting at anyway, so it's pretty irrelevant.

The biggest advantage of the AR is that it's basically Baby's First Gunsmithing when it comes to taking it apart and swapping in new peices and accessories. It's legos for grown ups and has one of the biggest aftermarkets in firearms.

Which means dick-all if you're a haji in the mountains of Afghanistan, 10,000 miles from the nearest gun store.

Weirdly enough, though, the region does have an intense fascination with the AR platform and you'll often see Pakistani armorers welding random bits of ARs to AKs to dress them up like one. So the gucci guns we left behind, like that sweet HK416 someone shared a pic of upthread, will likely wind up as a mostly unused status symbol in the hands of Taliban leadership.
