I don't see where this has been explicitly discussed, but it's been a couple of months and a very long thread, so I may have missed it.

Does anyone know what the public records laws are like in Japan? In the United States, most states allow for at least some access to routine law enforcement records, such as police reports (although there are some exceptions and limitations - for example, the police are not required to release an otherwise-public document until their investigation is closed). Anyone know?

If Japanese law allows such a request, does anyone here have enough familiarity with the language and the area to make a meaningful request to the correct authorities? It would be interesting to see an official response from the Japanese police.

Edit: After doing some research of my own, it appears that Japan is not as open as many American jurisdictions when it comes to public records, and I think the chances of getting anything official that way are slim and none.

I'd say that a failed attempt could be plausible, but at the same time as I've brought up in a previous post, the causes of those medicines he supposedly overdosed on weren't too lethal, mostly a case of vomiting and other intestinal issues, but no true death that instantaneously. It was just for blood pressure and pain relief. Unless he took like 20, overdosing is out of the option (plus as another previous poster has said, the medicines he took come in sleeves instead of bottles, and usually have set dosages.)

Another thing to note is if he was left alone or what have you, there'd definitely be smell complaints. Yet, nothing. Maybe Near wanted to go out with a bang without banging his head on a door to death. I'd also throw out some kind of account compromise being a plausible thing that would happen, as in, someone got his email and made this shit all up just to find a way to take down the farms, or attempt to. That said, who knows? Maybe Hector, whos' been talking nonstop about this, who also has been the most vocal of his friends, with others being anonymous, might have faked a huge elaborate suicide.

So... you can order the official death report from the State Department:

How to Request a Copy of a Report of Death

To request a copy of a Consular Report of Death Abroad filed in 1975 or after, you must submit:
1. Submit a notarized letter with the following information:
  • Full name of deceased (include first, middle, and last name)
  • Date of death (Month Date, Year) and place of death (City, Country)
  • Your signature
  • The mailing address where you want us to send the record
  • Your phone number
  • Your email address
2. Submit a copy of your valid photo ID (e.g. driver's license)
3. Send a $50.00 check or money order. Additional copies are $50.00 each.
  • Payable to the “U.S. Department of State”
  • Include a complete mailing address on the check
  • Checks and money orders must be payable in U.S. dollars through a U.S. bank
  • The Department is not responsible for cash lost in the mail
4. Mail the notarized request, copy of valid ID, and payment to:
U.S. Department of State
Passport Vital Records Section
44132 Mercure Cir.
PO Box 1213
Sterling, VA 20166-1213
Note: Avoid delays by notarizing your request and including a copy of your valid photo identification.
Processing Times
Due to limited staffing during the COVID-19 pandemic, you should expect to receive your document in 3 to 4 months. Some documents may take longer than 16 weeks due to nationwide shipping delays. Because of the unique nature of our records, we cannot provide expedited service. We can only provide official copies of records that are on file with the U.S. Department of State.
As additional employees return to our office, we are working aggressively to address all pending requests. You will continue to experience delays receiving certified vital records and the return of any original documents submitted. You may check the status of your request by emailing VitalRecordsPublicInquiries@state.gov or by calling 202-485-8300.
Shipping
We will send your vital record to you. You can select First Class Mail or 1-2 Day Delivery:
  • USPS First Class Mail: Takes one to two weeks. No additional charge.
  • 1-2 Day Delivery Service: Add $17.56 to the $50.00 check or money order.

Seems like a pretty big hassle to me, but some of you folks who are more dedicated to curating this drama may find it worthwhile.

edit: it seems like that is available only to family and legal representatives of the estate, thus the need for a notarized letter. Still, it's interesting information.

Just to play devil’s advocate for a moment — since the alleged suicide occurred on the 28th, is it at all possible that the Japanese authorities just didn’t report it to the US government by the end of June?

The big problem with this argument is that the US gov doesn’t release the data until months afterwards, meaning even if the Japs didn’t report it until later, the US still would’ve had the info in time to include his death in the June figures. Only somewhat reasonable response to this objection would be that the dates listed don’t represent the actual day of death but rather the day it was reported to the US. This is a very convoluted paragraph, which I guess speaks to the implausibility of the explanation.

so I just looked at the website again and yeah, it’s the date of death not the date of report. It says right there — “The information required is: (1) the date of death...” So the only way this argument works is if the Japanese haven’t bothered to report the death at all in the last ~2 months, highly unlikely.

Maybe? The guys here have made some pretty compelling cases about Japanese autism that run counter to that idea, though.

But yes, I'll admit that is a lingering thought in my mind too. And had the "Byuu is dead" theory had anything (literally, any other single thing) that was propping it up, I'd be willing to consider the possibility that there was a fuck-up. But that's not what's happening. "Oh, the US government's system wasn't updated!" wasn't just some freak occurrence throwing doubt on an otherwise solid basis. It's instead just the latest excuse for why we still have no fucking evidence at all that this dude is even dead.

The devil has long left the building on that one; as soon as a body hits the slab & positively identified, it generates a report within hours, depending on who's working & what time of day/week the death occured. In rural places, dying on the weekend typically means the report isn't done until Monday; but in metro areas this is no longer the case. These reports are now automatically pinged off multiple databases, civilian, law-enforcement, and .gov.
And if it's a foreign citizen, that report gets CC'd to their responsible consulate immediately.

Any lag-time in reporting would've come from the US, not the Nips. It's not like he died in some former combloc state brothel & missed the coroner's daily window of sobriety.

Source: the ME in my family.
I’m a little shocked that Hector didn’t immediately DDOS the site when the report was released.
What says he didn't try? Null's defenses got gooder.

Nool could just order the original thing and sell it with markup. This "urn" seriously looks more like a cookie jar than something you put human remains into.
Eh it's plausibly an urn. Some of them look like that.

Also the cookie jars were my idea and I want my cut. I'll accept crypto or incinerated troons
