🐱 Future Star Wars Games Will Reportedly Allow You To Create Trans Characters

CatParty

In March, Disney and Lucasfilm proudly unveiled Star Warsfirst trans, non-binary characters. These are Jedi Terec and Ceret, who feature in Marvel’s The High Republiccomic, with Lucasfilm explaining that they’re “passionate and committed to broadening our representation in a galaxy far, far away.”

This philosophy now looks likely to extend to video games, as sources close to We Got This Covered tell us that future Star Warsgames will allow players to create trans heroes in their character creators. If it comes to pass, it’ll be a nice bit of inclusivity, especially as the vast majority of contemporaries stick rigidly to binary genders (with Saint’s Row being a notable exception).

The obvious candidate for this feature is Ubisoft’s upcoming open-world game. The team behind The Division series is currently hard at work on delivering a Star Wars RPG, with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot describing the project as “an original Star Wars adventure that is different from anything that has been done before.”

Both games in The Division franchise have deep character creation options that allow you to tweak almost every aspect of the way your avatar looks, so it’s a no-brainer to bring in trans options.

This is all a long way away from Star Wars: The Old Republic, which in 2012 saw a low point in LGBTQ representation with the planet Makeb. Dubbed “the gay planet” by players, it was the sole location in which players could flirt with characters of the same sex. This quite rightly led to criticism of “digital segregation” and the whole thing backfired tremendously.

Let’s hope we see more of Ubisoft’s as yet untitled game soon. Anyone who’s played Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will know that there’s nobody in the business who can create open-worlds quite like Ubisoft, and if they manage to let players insert themselves into Star Wars they should be onto a winner.

Who's ready to see how much coping, seething, and dilating will occur on Twatter because "muh representation" doesn't meet their impossible standards?

You don't even have to look back more than a year, with Cyberpunk 2077. Do these game developers have the long-term memory of a goldfish, or do they like the REEEEEEEing?

Why the fuck would the devs need to waste time with this? Any game where you can customize your character would let you make a hideous troon-faced 'man' already, complete with dangerhair style and color options. Or you could go for a butterfaced 'woman' of nightmarish proportions without significant effort. The only problem would be the voice actor used but I'm sure even that's a switch that could be toggled.

Christ, did none of these fucks ever see any of the vids of hilariously fugly FemSheps and DudeBroSheps running around saving the Milky Way from the Reapers?

First EA makes the only recent Star Wars games. And now Ubisoft? And with extra woke shit?

Stop beating down this franchise, it's already dead...
This. Just put it in the incinerator already. At least then it can be used to supply heat.

Because a society that has mastered faster-than-light travel, psionics, laser technology, cybernetics, artificial intelligence, antigravity (and artificial gravity) would find rewriting genetic code difficult.
I mean, we had Gattaca. That's the whole premise of the film.

HOW ABOUT YOU LET ME MAKE SOME FUCKING ALIEN AND DROID PLAYER-CHARACTERS IN YOUR FUCKING IP WHERE ALIENS AND DROIDS OUTNUMBER HUMANS, JESUS CHRIST

THAT WOULD REQUIRE ACTUAL ARTIST WORK TO RIG FUCKING SKELETONS OF UNUSUAL SIZE AND SHAPE, AND GENUINE DESIGN INSTEAD OF JUST ADDING 10 MORE EYESHADOW OPTIONS AND MAKING IT EASY TO CHECK M/F/ENBY IN SOME RETARDED PROFILE BOX

RIP Plo Koon and Admiral Ackbar

So is Ubisoft's game going to be based on the dumpster fire that is The High Republic or are going to do what Disney's short story collections have done with gay representation and claim there were a bunch of troons around during the Original Trilogy?

My question about this, is will either Ubisoft censor out the trans options for countries that don't recognize the LGBT soup of genders, or will they take the easy route and just ban the games from those said countries instead? Remember that they did try to force Chinese censorship in Rainbow6 Siege to all regions for the game, removing things such as blood, skulls, and gambling refences. They only decided to not go that route, because Ubisoft received a lot of negative response to the original announcement.

It literally makes no sense from their "perspective" (delusions) if it's a player-made character creation thing. If trans women are real women, then just make a woman. There's no deep story elements attached to player created characters so there's not going to be some kind of "Tell Me Why" narrative tied to the gender to differentiate them.

They can add fleshed out tranny characters I guess, it's not like Star Wars can get any worse. Mental illness in a galaxy far, far away.

You're most likely going to just see all the hairtyles/makeup/etc be unlocked for 2 "body types", and/or 2 uniquely artist-made default characters that didnt involve the customization system.

That's generally how something like Mass Effect worked, a choice of masculine/femimime voice thrown in more or less completes the whole thing.

Like most games that do this, itl end there, you wont see a pronoun selector, since they would require changing the voice lines, any player preset that looks transgender would be called a transphobic characature, so you'll just see males/females with the potential to custom-make a monster or whatever.

Focus on being inclusive over delivering a good product. Worked great for Cyberpunk 2077, yeah? Wow, shit game but at least my character can troon out (and there’s a troon NPC, wow!)

That Last Order game was OK, but were the last great Star Wars games truly Jedi Knight: Outcast and Academy?
