Currently doing the rounds this heartbreaking case of an African baby with a head deformity I've never seen the like of.
Poor thing doesn't even have any pain relief just constantly screaming.
Funnily enough nobody seems to think this is a blessing or proof of the power of Jeebus. The father told the mother to send it back to the devil and abandoned her and their other kids. Not gonna lie I donated. The kids not going to live but at least they could sedate the poor thing and pump it full of painkillers.

Looks kind of like untreated severe craniosynostosis, early/ abnormal fusing of the sutures of the skull. edit: Maybe caused by Crouzon

Yep thats another name for Cloverleaf deformity/syndrome, but its not the underlying disorder causing the premature plate fusing.

A friend of a friend had a baby last week at 24 weeks due to premature labor...I'm not sure how much she weighs but she currently has a brain bleed and it isn't looking good.
As much as I do care about my friend, is it wrong to hope if the child is too fragile that she will go peacefully?
This thread reminds us all there are things worse than death but at the same time I feel like an asshole.

You're not wrong or an asshole. For personal reasons this thread strongly reaffirms my conviction that you should not force a baby into a life of suffering just to spare yourself having to grieve and deal with the loss. You're just not supposed to say these things out loud for social reasons. Your friend might feel these things too but she can't say them aloud because that's not the archetype of sacrificial, tragic motherhood our society accepts.

The Farms has never made me cry before. The story in this video made me so teary-eyed. Everything she went through, everything her other children are going through...That poor, poor woman. That poor, poor child. My god. I know life isn't fair, but it's things like this that make me think "That's not fair, no one should have to go through that."

Most people are just batting this shit around as a thought experiment. Too easy to say "I would raise the kid whatever and therefore some other poor woman must be forced to." There's a social media narrative that mama bear must fight for her god given baby's right to a chance at life even if that life is an endless parade of horror for all involved. Especially in Christian circles.
Having personally made the call to turn off life support and end the suffering FUCK anyone who wants to force children like this to suffer just for asspats and jesus points.

People be careful of the tragedy porn fundraisers from Africa. It's questionable whether any money will ever reach any of the poor kids they feature. They are well known for driving out to places where a child with a deformity lives, take it some cheap gifts and food, get some footage, make promises to the family, drive home, write up a big sob story and then watch the money come in and never send a dime to the tragic families featured - unless it makes enough for them to do a sequel fundraiser which then they might give the family $50 and more gifts to get more footage for round 2 of grifting.

The Nigerians finally discovered tragedy porn with kids works way better than the prince with a million dollars he needs your help to retrieve. They always use the "bullying angle" too, they learned that made the cash register sing in the west.

I mean Afrimax is a digital networking/ content mill, not who I would trust to give money to for needy kids, but then again people gave money to World Vision to feed hungry kids and it was just a CIA front.

If it's gotten lots of exposure or gone viral they will at least return because the story has legs for the moment. Maybe get NatGeo's attention, they at least seem to get actual medical care for the tragedy porn kids they feature.
