There are only like 3 or 4 such people and they don't look particularly suspicious. They all have fairly long internet footprints - mostly spergy game-type interests but what would you expect from people committing to emulator repos?

I saw one user who started really actively contributing to Ares with insightful proficiency just a couple weeks after byuu fucked off but I couldn’t tell for sure whether it was really him despite the coincidence. This guy: https://github.com/invertego

The commits are all over the place and he knows as much about irrelevant emulation systems as byuu would, right from the first commit on July 7 he’s making changes all over the place as if he’s been familiar with the project for years.

I’m not 100% sure it is him because I dug further and it seemed it was just some other guy who runs a Phoenix Wright forum. But, again, it could just be yet another socking attempt where he’s borrowing some inactive fucker’s account to be less inconspicuous. Byuu also sucked at using git in a public setting, whereas invertego is actually properly making incremental commits rather than rolling everything up into a single versioned release. But perhaps he learned to hide these ticks following advice, I don’t know. I just can’t find another explanation as to why some guy with omnipotent knowledge of his emulator just showed up a week after his death to make arbitrary changes to his favorite repository.

@D.Va i looked into that account too tbh. Like pretty heavily lol, iirc there was a 7-8 year old project that grabbed images from some game.... then nothing... then ares.

One similarity I did notice was the (over)use of commas in the typing.

I also found some old posts of emu forums from awhile back.

I don’t know if he got kicked out of an “official” Rust language discord (I’ve not come across an official one). But I’ve found the discord servers a lot more pliable than platforms like gitter or slack.
