The Matrix Resurrections Thread - Woah

Why are people excited about this gayness? Reloaded was very meh and everyone apparently hated Revolutions. This is like getting excited for a new season of Game of Thrones or a modern Dune movie.

I liked the original trilogy a lot (obviously the first movie was the best though). Ironically, if they simply kept it down to the regular Wachowski-level weirdness with amazing, stylish Hong Kong action mixed in, The Matrix might even stand a chance of being revitalized now that Star Wars and the MCU are flailing around in wokeness and constantly shitting themselves.

Of course, that's not what's going to happen here. I sincerely doubt Lana Wachowski has enough integrity to not make this movie about their tranny shit, even though sticking to the most successful formula without deviation would be the most rewarding overall. You'd think that after floundering with Jupiter Ascending (which was supposed to start a trilogy) that protecting your OG golden goose and its mythos would be of utmost importance.

You know what would be fantastic? A non shit movie that's not just a rehash based on a decades old franchise.

This movie is dead before it even hits cinemas. It's going to be one hot mess of political finger wagging and crude attempts to somehow tie it into the plot of an old trilogy as if it was always meant to happen (you know, just like the trilogy itself, that was merely grafted onto a single movie as if it was always meant to happen).

There was one good movie, 2 lackluster sequels, the Animatrix (which had its moments)... and now this. I hope it'll at least go all out on its cringey political ballbusting, at least we'll have something to laugh at. I really hope there will be a black tranny protag and Neo will have to swallow his old-white-man pride and accept that he might be the chosen one, but the task he was chosen for wasn't to save anyone, but just to be an ally for TrooNeo.

Dude's got a point.

Doesn't help that the concept of a "Matrix" is way less mind-blowing than it was in 1999.

@RomanesEuntDomus That tweet brings up a good point. It’s not just growing up, but the world as it was is less worse then what it is now. Most people voluntarily give up information about anything and everything to foreign governments for the sake of playing video games of all damn things, so if given the option to live a life without suffering and terrible circumstances as of the now, people would leap for it.

The full trailer is out.
The action looks okay (I'm a sucker for this kind of over-the-top action), but the story makes it seem more like a reboot than a sequel. I never saw the sequels, but didn't the third one end pretty definitively? If anything it looks as though it's retreading the same ground as the first, albeit with Neo more or less already superpowered and with the pill metaphor cranked up to 11 (though with the blue pill being more distinctly sinister in this case, which is frankly surprising). Hell that one guy at the end spells it out by saying "back where it all began."

In short it looks like a cash grab for a franchise that didn't go anywhere after the first installment.

Yeah, giving up personal liberty for safety has become an aggressively accepted virtue with covid.

From the trailer it looks like a beat for beat rehash of Matrix 1 marketed with nostalgia. Remember agents? Remember when neo fought Morpheus in a dojo? Remember blue pills and red pills? Remember the white rabbit? Remember all the Alice in Wonderland references?

I knew it would be bad. How do you do a 4th movie after both the male and female leads pretty conclusively died at the end of the story, and the primary antagonist agrees to peace and an end to the primary conflict. Definitely not gonna watch this and ruin my memories of the original Matrix, which remains on the list of culture my kids will watch before they turn 18.

The Wachowskis are unreliable at the best of times, so I'm not expecting much. I think it'll just be another run-of-the-mill mediocre reboot that's not worth making much of a fuss over, with some woke sprinkles here and there. Sadly, that's just par for the course nowadays.

The full trailer is out.
"The Matrix: Memberberries"
"The Matrix: Bootleg Edition"

I'm not feeling Bootleg Morpheus, neither the atmosphere...

EDIT: check out the old 1999 trailer, for comparison.

It's why I think it's a bootleg version of The Matrix. These fuckhead Wachowskis lost their soul when they trooned out, it doesn't even compare to the OG trailers.
