Suspected Noose At Lynching Historical Marker Was Part Of Floral Arrangement, Police Say

SEVERNA PARK, Md. (WJZ) — A piece of twine on the “Lynching In Anne Arundel County” historical marker that police were investigating as a noose was in fact part of the plaque when the monument was installed, the Anne Arundel County Police Department said Wednesday.

On Sunday, police announced investigators were looking into the twine as an act of vandalism at the marker, which was relocated to the Severna Park Library this summer.

In an update Wednesday, police said the twine was “in place the day marker was dedicated and was apparently being used to hold a floral arrangement in place.”

A citizen walking by the marker on Sunday had reported the twine to authorities.

“The Anne Arundel County Police Department investigates any reported act which appears to be motivated, or perceived by the reporting person to be motivated, all or in part, by hatred toward or bias against an individual or group on the basis of race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, gender, gender identity, or homelessness, ”police said on Wednesday.

When leaving a piece of string is consider vandalism but burning down several city blocks is considered peaceful protests,
I bet there'll be a new spree of rope just being left around randomly by pranksters in the near future. If it's so easy to get a rise out of law enforcement, you can expect more people to do it for lulz.

What? Why? There is no information for anyone to give beyond, "Yep... there's a plant hanging from it."

LOL. "Report all suspicious twine and bailing wire to the police. Help keep your community free of racist fasteners."

AA police are extremely bored, Annapolis isnt exactly the hotbed of crime in MD.

Arnold\Severna Park is tiny, if it wasn't so expensive I would love to live there. Theres a lot of show about trying to be inclusive but Annapolis\Severna Park\ Arnold is predominantly white, and bored rich people. This news blew up locally and the police got laughed at for 2 days before admitting it was just fucking twine.

Since when is a noose even considered a racist symbol anyway? I get how it's a racist gesture in certain contexts. But without doing any research, I'm willing to bet more white people have died by hanging than niggers.
Gee, kinda like how there have probably been more white slaves in the history of humanity than black slaves, despite the idiots in charge wanting you to believe that only black people have ever been slaves.

Color me skeptical on that one. Granted, the majority of black slaves belonged to black slavers.
Slavery was a practice in all cultures. Virtually everyone has a family history tracing back to both someone who was enslaved and someone who has enslaved others (this is almost a tautology given how much slavery was in the form of sexual slavery). Yes, the Ottomans had a particular fondness for white girls in their harems. But I'm pretty sure the overall ratio of slaves, by race, throughout history is going to closely resemble the ratio of people, by race, throughout history.

I'm open to evidence to the contrary.
