Culture Whoopi Goldberg Shreds Bill Maher Over Black National Anthem Comments on ‘The View’

The View moderator Whoopi Goldberg had strong words for Bill Maher in today’s episode of the ABC talk show. While discussing a controversial Real Time with Bill Maher clip in which Maher criticized the existence of the US Black national anthem “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” she took him to task for writing off centuries of African American culture and activism as a byproduct of “woke culture.”

During a recent episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, the titular host condemned the NFL for playing two national anthems at the season kickoff game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Dallas Cowboys: The “official” US national anthem, and “Lift Every Voice and Sing” (which was performed by Alicia Keys).

“I think we should have one national anthem,” Maher said. “I think when you go down a road where you’re having two different national anthems, colleges sometimes now have … many of them have different graduation ceremonies for Black and white, separate dorms — this is what I mean! Segregation! You’ve inverted the idea. We’re going back to that under a different name.”

To Goldberg, this logic is the result American culture going backwards “a good 10, 15 years.”

“We’re having to reeducate people on how everyone wants to be talked about. These were all things that I thought we’d worked on together,” she said. “Just so you know, Bill, Lift Every Voice has always been considered the Black anthem. Maybe other people don’t know that. We don’t think rape humor is funny. It’s not funny!”

Co-hosts Sara Haines and Joy Behar echoed Goldberg’s statements, pointing out that the national anthem wasn’t written with all Americans in mind — in fact, writer Francis Scott Key owned slaves.

Guest host and conservative commentator Mary Katharine Ham argued that many Americans feel passionate about the national anthem “because it stood for all of us in those rare moments when we were truly unified,” and because it honors millions of Americans who died for their country.

“My father, my grandfather fought in all of those wars. Couldn’t vote, but fought in all of these wars. We’ve been fighting to be seen as equal,” Goldberg responded.

“You cannot say this is happening because people are woke. I’ve never been asleep,” she continued. “In the culture that I’ve seen, we are fighting because there’s a big gap. Not just us, Native Americans, all the ‘other’ we’ve been talking about. America, get it together! We already dealt with this.”

Your father and grandfather fought in wars, now here you sit championing its steady decline and approaching racial warfare. If they fought feeling even a speck of patriotism to their country they'd deeply frown on your choices. You, a wealthy elite with more power than they could ever hope for.

I remember thinking Louis Farrakhan was some weird fringe character that most black people would've been completely unfamiliar with. Then you had guys like Snoop Dogg coming out in his defense when criticized for being more racist than any far right group the FBI has cooked up.

So when Whoopi has lines like:
“My father, my grandfather fought in all of those wars. Couldn’t vote, but fought in all of these wars. We’ve been fighting to be seen as equal,”
I believe it, she wants a separate, but equal culture of blacks. She's also probably a believer in the modern globalist idea that America isn't a unifying culture, but just an assortment of different cultures coexisting alongside each other. It'd explain why she's baffled by both the notions that a separate national anthem would be seen as needlessly divisive or the idea that the national anthem does represent every American.

Going backwards “a good 10, 15 years.” is literally what we should be doing though.

The trouble with black America seeing themselves as a wholly separate thing from the rest of America is the idea that their success has to come at the cost of the failure of whites, ie the more blacks are encouraged to feel good about themselves the more whites are encouraged to feel bad about themselves and so on, it's always a zero sum game with Woke and it's recipe for nothing but sowing division and resentment.

I'd be more supportive if it went part and parcel with leaving white people the fuck alone and getting out of our hair for a change, but of course that's not what it's about.

In other words it wouldn't be enough if every black person in America became wealthy, whites would have to be the new ones to live in the ghettos and suffer in poverty.

I disagree with Bill Maher on many things, but I am well aware that the man is observant and reasonably intelligent (and actually funny), esp when compared to Michael Moore who he‘s often lumped in with. So it always bemuses me when people who should agree with him dismiss him as some complete idiot.

And in this case, he’s absolutely right, too.

Makes me a bit thankful for the woke crowd existing, since they make it plainly clear, due to their inability to understand how offensive their views are, how many blacks do genuinely believe it is a zero sum game where blacks can only succeed at the detriment of whites.

It's a variant of the Marxist power-struggle thinking. Punching upward forever as prosperity can never be shared and the world is divided into classes of haves and have-nots. But this time with revisionist woke history making an ethnicity permanently a have-not and therefore always justified at grabbing and abusing institutional power to cement themselves at the top. For fairness or something.

When do you think this will become the official gospel. Make no mistake this will become the new normal:

You disgusting fat kikenigger, if the nation you're sucking the lifeblood out of is so bad, how about you pack your shit and fuck off back into Africa or Israel.

God, if only that was true.
We don’t think rape humor is funny. It’s not funny!”
That's possible, but your "men" sure as hell seem to believe rape itself is just about the best thing ever. Oh and btw, wasn't that you who defended Polanski's drugging and brutal anal rape of a 13 year old girl, excusing it with "yeah it was rape, but it wasn't rape-rape"?

Make actors live like the whores they are again.
