Maybe I'm pretentious or don't understand video games but why are games like this popular? I'd rather go read some book or maybe watch a movie. It seems games like these are becoming more common and I'm just not understanding the appeal.

I just remember back in the 90's and 00's where you were lucky if the game had a story in between the gameplay and consumers didn't expect it, now you're lucky if there's gameplay between the story and if there's no story consumers whine. I pity zoomers that don't even realize how good video games used to be, they think minecraft was some crazy unique idea of just fucking around in a video game but really that's how a lot of games used to be (not to say all games are bad now, just commenting on how more games focused on story with trash gameplay are more common).
Anyway that's my aging millennial rant for the day.
It's the "gaming media's" push for "art" plus the games being so piss easy that any competent gamer has no need to put in any effort to beat.
Theoretically it should be about presenting an interactive story that pushes the player to think (think the good visual novels like ace attorney or at a push danganronpa) but they often have shit stories to push the ideas of untalented political hacks. And that's if your lucky to have any illusion of gameplay or choice.

A lot of them pretend to be "artistic" and "deep" but then have basic bitch storylines and themes that get explored in such a juvenile and simplistic manner. I tuned in for a few minutes when the black chick was having a nervous breakdown where she's angry and Phil said that he almost teared up because it explored MUH EMOTIONS and complexities such as loving someone and then at the same time hating them and how it reminds him of his own situation. Imagine if this denthead had to read classic Russian literature, he'd be depressed and 3 bottles of gin deep after only 30 pages.

A bit ago there as a clip of Phil talking about how Kat had never been through any of the type of shit that he had been through with trolls, adversity etc. That made me mati which Phil almost never does.
From the info posted here Kat had a legit horrifying childhood. Her life has probably been one of despair, abuse, and abandonment. She's not perfect, but in contrast to spoiled only child Phil she's at least deserving of sympathy.
I wonder if kat...the girl who grew up with the insane abusive mother...gets tired of Phil bitching about his life so much...Phil the spoiled child who went to a private university and had every toy he wanted.
I doubt Phil has even feigned interest in things Kat been through. We know he doesn't give a fuck about things she goes through now. She could probably tolerate his narcissism before...but now he probably spends all their time together bitching about his life and she's just done with it.

You know what, gonna power level. Just spent 5 hours in a car to get chewed out by a bunch of authority figures and get my school career back on track. And then I gotta be up at 7AM like nothing happened.
I don't ever like to compare myself to Phil directly, but reading that, I had to laugh. Because I had to own up that I fucked up. I couldn't say that I did everything right. I had to piss away my whole day in a car and waiting rooms. And now I just have to suck it all up and move on with my life. Especially because I could have taken the easy route. Put it on hold try again in the spring and act like I did nothing wrong and save my whole day. I could even call and tell them I will be late because I have stuff to do dood. Im even gonna get less sleep over this. But alas. I am an actual mature adult. Reaped what I sowed. And tomorrow is gonna suck ass. This week is gonna suck. But my life will move on.
