reading this sentence reminded me of something when i was very young. back when i was like, 8-9 years old, I saw an action figure at a store I wanted. Asked my parents there if we could get it, they said we could come back in a few days for it. so I took the toy and put it at the very back of the shelf, so it'd be there when we came back.

it was not there. but hey 8 year old me still apparently had more foresight than Phil does today, I at least tried to hedge my bets to get what I wanted.

You know, I kind of took for granted how unbelievably low his view counts are on his videos for someone of his notoriety; even me being a nobody hobbyist YouTuber am crushing his numbers on a per video basis.

Thinking about it, the stuff that I make is made because I want it to exist, right? Like whatever I'm making a video on I either see some kind of need, or I want to give a take on it in some way. Seeing some people looking forward to the Month in Review videos has me really looking forward to making them because producing something that people enjoy just feels nice you know?

DSP's shit on the other hand... It's just completely soulless garbage. Like I can't think of a single piece of value in it. His takes are worthless because he's an uninformed fence-sitter, he's not charismatic, he yells and begs, and he sucks ass at games. Even his music and artwork is stolen. He can't even make his own fucking THUMBNAILS.

I think I finally get what he means when he calls his YT channel an "archive" -- it's a graveyard where his content goes to die, mostly untouched and unwatched except for detractors looking for a clip through PigPigGo. No one is excited to see a new DSP video in their sub feed.

At least you never shouted at them at the top of your lungs saying "I TOLD YOU TO BUY THE FIGURE, WHY DON'T YOU LISTEN TO REEEEEE" I mean apparently it was such a no brainier!

I'm sure your parents were good people and raised you well and didn't spoil you so you wouldn't end up becoming a greedy entitled manchild like Phil here who called his parents "fucken stoopid" and held a grudge against them all the way till adulthood, and probably still does to this day.

Regardless. This is just like Psychonauts 2. Phil loves it but no one wants to come watch him play it! *sigh*

Why does he care so much that people like or buy it? Yeah okay Phil this "game" is good, to you. This is the same dude who liked Sonic 06' and Ride to Hell: Retribution. Your word means nothing.

Plus, you could literally watch a no commentary playthrough of it and get a little more enjoyment out of it, and fulfill the need to not buy this trash. Fuck man, I went and watched a Psychonauts 1 playthrough and got more out of that because the person edits out the boring collectathon parts, doesn't pause the game, doesn't talk over the cutscenes, and doesn't well, suck.

Something else I noticed was how he seems desperate to throw shade at reviews for a game he has zero stakes in. What does he stand to gain from doing this, especially when he has trashed games for lesser crimes against him.

Dave doesn't call out enough people on his streams for fights. I think Phil should call out washed up fighters and do a pay per view fight with them. That one time pay day will last him at least a month of bills and all the WWE Champions cards he could buy

I'd just like to stress how much Phil's attitude towards his gameplay, and even his gameplay itself, absolutely doesn't take away from his channel and make people dislike him. The classic complaints like "I pressed [Button] for sure you guys!", "Come on this is bullshit!", "Wow I got robbed!", people don't really mind this in their game streamers. Hell, who doesn't love salt? The problem with Phil is that his salt ISN'T all in good fun.
People take issue with him because you know he's always getting on his little soapbox and holding his opinion as "objective" and "professional". Of course, shitting on the game devs all the time doesn't help his case either.
Hell, I was playing Mario Party with my brother the other day and he got salty a few times the same way Phil would. "The hitbox on the goal is wonky!", "Fuck this, I'm just gonna mash the button and hope I win," and you know what? We were laughing our heads off. Phil absolutely could have carved a niche for himself that could have retained a strong standing today by being "That guy who kind of sucks at hard games". He regressed because he wanted his content to be all about his gain and his enjoyment and no one else's.
When you want to put out a product or a piece of work, you have to take into consideration the thoughts and feelings of your audience, how it will affect the people close to you. I don't know if Phil ever had a thought in his head that resembles "I bet my viewers are gonna love this!"

Phil just recounted how someone told him that they wished they could play Psychonauts like him, but they can't because they have a PS5.
Phil says he was shocked, and had to tell them this is available on PS5!

Interesting insight into Phil's delusions, because I can tell you that he was the one that thought it was XBox exclusive. His chat then had to correct him and tell him what platforms it was available on, and Phil was surprised.
This has now been retconned to Phil heroically guiding people to this 'hidden gem' of a game because the advertising failed to spread correct information.
He has completely warped how this went down on his streams and created a fictional person who he spoke to in order to do it.

If I talked to my parents the way DSP talked about them, I'd get a smack and be grounded. Which is what should've happened to Phil. Truth be told, my parents made mistakes (we all do), but they did what they knew was best, and didn't spoil me with toys, and taught me the value of money.

Which again, is probably something Phil's parents never did with him.
