Probably way too late and pointless, but as a new Californian (even though I was born here and have a long multi-generational history in this damn state), I joined his team and got this lovely email:
It's nice seeing Californians who come from families since WW2 and built businesses and lives for themselves in the post-war golden years of America (too many "Californians" moved here recently it seems and have no historic connection nowadays). Maybe we can get a descendent of a 49er or one of the native Californian tribe members to run someday (true fucking Californians). Anyway, they even had a petition to investigate voter fraud in California (HA!), which I signed anyway. The university can't hurt me for following legal rules and petitions, right? (knocks on wood).

Maybe the most obvious explanation is that rappers spend their careers accruing "fuck you" money and flaunting it. They are capitalists. Even a Democrat telling them no is going to rub them wrong. A lot of them also grew up poor, so they kind of understand that life isn't a woke dream. Whether they're just looking out for No. 1 or have some mild interest in their community, they are in a unique position and are gonna have weird political views that they will be loud about. Unlike for other celebs, part of their whole appeal is picking fights and being unfiltered. It can only improve their status.
These groups are very diverse. A melting pot, in harmony.
