Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

Thermite is dead easy to make as well, and a single soda can full of it will eat halfway through an engine block with no trouble.

Just something to win you a pitcher at Bar Trivia Night.
That makes a fuss. It happens to be really bright. Recipe is dead easy though.
In the fanfic above it wouldn't work just because it would be so noticeable. If the setting was a supply line, say train tracks going through nowhere, it would be more plausible.
Edit: semi ninjad

I-5 from Portland to Olympia would be a fucking nightmare. Not to mention the railway going through that area. You get more than a mile from I-5 and you're in the bush. People have broken down out near Vader, walked away from their car, and were never found again. Sure, they're right near JBLM, but the funny thing about JBLM is you get 10 miles from it, you're in the bush again. It'd have to be patrolled and patrolled heavy, with semi-truck convoys escorted because of just how rough the terrain is and how I-5 is constantly under construction just to keep the fucking thing intact. It's a major route for trucking up and down the West Coast, so it'd have to be patrolled constantly, with drone overflight to watch for some asshole with a chainsaw or a block of home-made C4. The train tracks would have to be patrolled, that means those dedicated trucks running up and down it.

They'd also need to occupy the Centralia/Chehalis airport, since it can handle major cargo jets (or at least it used to).

But I'm sure a 12 man squad from the SAS can handle that whole stretch of road.

Still reading through the thread, but for anybody entertaining civil war fantasies, why are you assuming that everybody's going to be acting perfectly to plan and execute things? People act dumb now, imagine what it'll be like when communications can't be trusted/aren't as much of a thing and we can't access information as readily as we do now. If there's one law I know that's a constant, it's that life will always somehow be dumber than you can imagine it being.

I'm just waiting for the Glow in the Darks to go thermonuclear:

Release evidence that the 2020 election was stolen. Bonus if they leak evidence that someone high up (Pelosi / Biden / etc) knew or organized it.
I don't think anything will happen if they did annouce they stole the elections. The NPCs will come out and say it had to be done. The right will shake their fists and get angry about it. I mean, Time put out an article about securing the election in Oct 2020 and no one batted an eye.

Something I learned a long time ago:

Pick the dumbest, most ignorant, most ass-backwards thing you can possibly think of that nobody in their right mind would do with the slightest bit of sanity.

That is what everyone will do.

And STILL manage to fuck it up.

Although, there is ONE absolutely hilarious scenario that was wargamed out in the 1990's when it was the wargaming/planning operational theories time.

The whole Civil War plans and how to handle it had the funniest scenario that must made everyone go "bwah?" and stare at each other.

In the scenario the states all balkanized against the Fed, some supporting, some defying. Governors called up the Nation Guard and Reserves, and everyone was ready to fight.

The guy gaming out the active duty was told "OK, now, roll out of the bases and make your preparations."

He went "Nah. This looks like something for the National Guard and the State Patrol to handle. Active Duty doesn't fight civilians."

The whole thing fell apart. National Guard units couldn't project power, the judges ruled that the civilians went home after 2 months, and the game ended.

The idea of the active duty military just looking around and going "You know what, this isn't our fucking problem. Call me when the winners are declared, we don't kill civilians." is fucking hilarious and the least likely thing to happen.

It would be completely fucking hilarious.

One of the big things to remember about a potential American civil war is that, if it goes off? Everything we knew is gone. The Internet? Gone. Kiwifarms? Gone. The sun? Gone. Your local diner where you could pull in and discuss Nicki Minaj's new album with likeminded folk? You can bet your ass that it's gone. We don't live in a world where 100% of folks in cities voted for Biden and 100% of folks in rural places voted for Trump. We live in a world where rural and urban communities are polarized along political, ethnic, religious, and sexy lines, and there's nothing we can do to change that fact. No matter what happens, it's not going to come down to a binary situation, where we all form battle lines and plink away at each other until right-clicked away to build some new thing, it's been a while since I played Age of Empires so I couldn't tell you for sure. No, it's going to be more chaos than we can imagine, and probably more quickly than we can imagine.

This too! There's a world of difference between being very mad at somebody online and going through boot camp (or its equivalent) so you can blow up their vague radius and call it good.

Bernie Sanders never stood a chance in a general election. His socialist views would have entirely alienated the Republicans, driving turnouts and alienated a majority, as in about 80%, of Independents. Even among the Democrats, his views would alienate the roughly 17-20% of Blue Dogs.
2020 Bernie probably whereas 2016 Bernie was similar more to Trump than to the wokeshit we see today. He was drawing large crowds and could have taken the Rust Belt for a narrow win.

I love that she thinks it's crazy that 18 MONTHS IN that nobody is checking her.

Most people think it's crazy that 9 months after the vaccine became available that any of this shit is still happening, especially when every week a new study come out confirming that most of these precautions are worthless at best and sometimes even worse than nothing, like the plexiglass barriers that restrict air circulation.

So, it ends not with a bang, but with a shrug?

This dozy mare limey doesn't realize that interstate travel is a fundamental right so baked into the Constitution that it's practically uninfringeable without seriously violating Constitutional Law. That's why any attempt to restrict interstate travel is doomed to fail under any form of judicial review.

Reminds me of this delusional post I saw from a state senator the day after the Texas bill passed. Not a peep about the Afghanistan child brides from that fag senator though, hmm odd.

What does this even mean? Optimistic take would be something about after dealing with abortion in Texas they will deal with FGM in Minnesota, but I'm guessing that's not what's happening here...

Gotta admit it is a little funny that in both instances, it was/is Californians who want interstate travel restricted. Little do they know if those of us in the middle of the country could, we would build a wall around California in a second. But we understand the Constitution, so therein lies the difference.

Karo syrup works too. Not as flashy as thermite but can pick it up at any supermarket.
