Drawing on an iPad isn't the device's primary purpose, but a tablet is basically a simplified computer; you CAN draw on it, just like you CAN write an essay on it, it's all about the software you use. It also has the benefit of being literally all screen to draw on, and a fairly sizable screen at that.

A Switch is considerably smaller, less than half the size of an iPad, and aside from being a smaller working surface in general this also means that screen has less room to fit the UI that you need when drawing. If you have a Switch and nothing else, sure I guess it's better than having nothing at all, but I'd be willing to bet your average adult manchild is more likely to have some sort of tablet or computer than a Switch.

Lou has NO SHORTAGE of iPads and also doesn't fucking draw so idk why he'd care.

Honestly reminds me of the absurd amount of people I knew (at least 3 back in the day?) who, instead of having cellphones or actual cameras, used their DSi for everything camera/internet related. That's the only kind of person I can see this being for, aside from bored ten year olds on a car trip and gimmick artists looking for a new trick.

I want Lou to get it, it's been ages since we've seen new original art from him. He drew that tiger a million years ago.

I think the game is meant to be a fun little way to for people to learn more art techniques n stuff, mostly for people that want to learn and already own a switch, or more professional artists that wanna experiment with the platform. They usually have a website where people can show off the artwork they make, like they did with the 3DS version of the game a few years ago. It gameifies the process, similar to home fitness apps like Peloton or Apple Fitness. They’re saying “get an iPad with procreate” because it’s specifically designed to do those sort of creative tasks.

Lou wants bigger displays, whereas for what I do (which is firmly in the creative field), but legitimately creative people care about colour accuracy, at the very least. The iPad has been famously good at that for years, and they’re not a $3,000 Wacom Cintiq.

Yeah, you can fingerpaint on a switch, but that’s very much a “everything becomes a nail when I only have a hammer” problem.

Not that Lou will ever go beyond the fingerpainting stage, but that’s why you hear “get the proper tools for the job” so often.
