Back to delusions about how nobody can tell if someone is trans:

So there's this weirdly popular myth, which people buy into to varying degrees, but at the most brutal end it goes like this:

We've got these people we call trans women, who look like men but you have to call them women, because they have some weird brain thing and going against it is just completely devastating to them.

And some of the more worldly ones will also add on to that that there's people who look like women but you gotta call them "them" or "enby."

Obviously this is all complete BS and I am also being a bit tongue in cheek assuming people this removed from reality just full on do not comprehend that trans men exist or AMAB nonbinary people etc. etc. the 101 class is still over here if anyone is new:

Meanwhile, over in reality, an important thing to understand is that as a general rule of thumb, if someone is trans, you will not know that that person is trans unless that person has actively decided to let you know.

Once someone really decides they're going to do the whole transition thing, there's a bit of an ugly duckling window of a few months, maybe a couple years, when we'll generally either just never leave our homes or only do so in the bulkiest of hoodies or whatever but at some point the mix of HRT if any, surgical things if any, wardrobe and makeup changes if any, and DEFINITELY the cumulative effect of just living as who we are openly for long enough to normalize it and affect body language and other subtle stuff comes to a point where every trans woman just looks like any other woman every trans man looks like any random guy, and you're not going to hestitate or need a moment to think when addressing us. Nonbinary people meanwhile you probably will hesitate on with just a vague sense that this person seems pretty cool and confident and hope someone else uses a pronoun to clue you in. Now prior to transitioning things get dicey. Like when I was around 6 people constantly correctly referred to me as a cute little girl and I or my parents had to "correct" them and I had to build up this kinda ridiculous in retrospect "manly" camouflage in my teens to avoid that awkwardness but like, nobody's ever gonna be upset at you for misgendering a trans person who isn't out as trans yet so you're just either playing along with the ruse or you're accidentally being right and making some stranger feel good for reasons they maybe can't process yet. But ANYWAY, like I said, generally speaking, if you are aware that someone is trans, it is because that person has actively decided to let it be known to you that they are trans (or someone outed them, don't do that people).

Like, for instance, literally not one single person in the world would be aware that I'm trans if I didn't go and start at least one sentence a day all "speaking as a trans woman..." and ramble about how very good that Kamen Rider Revice color scheme is and ramble on with threads like this.

Because I do all that, I have to deal with transphobes constantly.

And by that I mean there is this big pile of obsessive violent crackpots who go out term-searching for all those things I say that make it clear I'm trans and look for this very good color schemeand other things they've decided are signifiers (like how I stick that "she/her" in my bio because modern societal convention dictates we all do stuff like that because it's not like people can look at what I'm typing and see all the obvious feminine signifiers they would in a face to face conversation that make these things obvious). And oh hey, speaking of signifiers, ironically enough with how much they pretend otherwise, transphobes are all about using clearly declared pronouns as a signifier! They make a big performance out of how that basic convention I just mentioned (which really has nothing to do with being trans) is a sign of being "the enemy," shouting "Pronouns in bio!" like they spotted a skull and crossbones on the flag of a passing ship, and then they have this whole song and dance where they work out someone's gender the same way anyone else would (looking at said bio on the internet, or at someone's name, or "hmm, this person is probably a woman because I'm seeing big ol' boobs, dangly hoop earrings, a skirt, and the tired worn-down expression of someone dealing with BS all day") and make a big performance out of using the wrong pronouns.

So you get someone pointing at what is clearly a woman going "Look at HIM! HE's just standing here! What a filthy MAN!" etc. And again this isn't even something they just do with trans people, it's anyone they consider an enemy.

Because, and this is the whole point here, it does no actual harm to, say, a trans woman, to refer to her as "him." It's not like we're vampires and you're holding up the cross or something. It's just a signifier. The bigot doing this is making it VERY clear to everyone in earshot that they are a bigot, and the person they are shouting at is one of the people they hate. It's the same operating principle as shouting a slur at someone. You're verbally drawing a clear line in the sand, and seeing who within earshot starts drifting towards which side of it. Are you the only bigot here surrounded by a bunch of people who have your targets back? Do you have a lot of silent backup who are going to start slipping you smiles to let you know you can take things further? Is the owner of whatever space this confrontation you're in actively turning a blind eye to your outburst, so you know you aren't at risk of being thrown out?

So, if you see people pointing out that sort of obvious misgendering, it's not about hurt feelings or anything, it's "hey, did everyone hear the obvious dog whistle from the violent bigot? Because we should be preparing for something to go down now after that open display of aggression."

But the actual real problems of dealing with transphobes are the things that follow that testing of the waters, or take place less publicly or less directly. Actual physical violence. Smear campaigns. Propaganda claiming all trans people are "mentally ill" which in turn come with nazi dog whistles implying the proper treatment for that is to kill us all or imprison us or lobotomize us or whatever. More propaganda portraying us as actual supernatural monsters. All this stuff:

I don't know if anyone was actually following me for this, but it's been a while since I've talked at all about the whole mess we'll call "the Wi Spa thing" and people who HAVE been talking it for the past... entire time it's been a thing have been continuing to do so via asses. So here's a vague overview where I'm going to be intentionally fuzzy about a lot of details because from where I sit, that's the only remotely ethical way to bring people up to speed on this.

So on July 3rd, a raving far right weirdo walked into a spa in LA and recorded a video wherein she screamed a whole bunch of completely unhinged gibberish which, if I properly recall, mainly consisted of a bunch of ranting about people burning in hell, a man exposing his genitalia to little girls in a hottub and/or changing room, and a lot of thrusting her camera in the direction of where these things were apparently happening in order to record... a complete absence of anything remotely resembling any of what she described. Additionally police showed up, interviewed people, and nobody on the scene saw anything related to any of this. The video however VERY quickly found its way into transphobic circles online, mainly based in the UK (as they tend to be) and the legend was quickly amended that this was a trans woman, not a man as was clearly stated in the video, although to my knowledge the recorder of said video, which again, did not contain anyone at all, did not at any point actually amend that description. It was just sort of taken as read that if people are shouting about "a man" in a video linked all over mumsnet, you're supposed to decode that into "a trans woman" on your own It was at around this point in the narrative incidentally where the staff of the spa noted that A- it's not a walk-in sort of place, everyone present within is there by appointment, B- they have multiple regular clients who are trans and this is not a problem, and C- none were actually present when this random woman shouting gibberish was filming random walls and people who were just checking in or out that had nothing to do with what she was saying.

Most reasonable people looking at the facts of this came pretty swiftly to the conclusion that the video, in addition to being a hoax, was a premeditated stunt specifically designed to stir up anger towards a queer-inclusive place of business.

Meanwhile, quite a large number of completely unreasonable nazis immediately descended on the location of said business to generally riot, threaten the lives of queer people, stab multiple people, and once again demonstrate to all of us exactly where the police stand when nazis gather in public to do violence like that.

Meanwhile, the more prose-happy sorts of fascist, both via social media and the odd news article/editorial set about doing their very best to get propaganda out there with three basic goals in mind:
1- Convince people that the raving weirdo's video that clearly shows nothing but a desk and confused people shows a nude trans woman in a hot tub with a bunch of children
2- Convince people that any of several dozen individual trans women a given bigot wanted the armed nazi mob at the spa to try to hunt down and murder is the plainly non-existent woman in question.
3- Convince people that a trans woman visiting a trans-inclusive spa where clients regularly undress would somehow constitute some manner of crime rather than being a perfectly ordinary day of business for that establishment.

Random side note, but it should be obvious that everyone participating in this knows full well how full of it they are as even without personally watching the video, which last I checked is still freely available, it should be common sense that if this woman had actually burst into a room full of undressed children as is the claim, filming them without consent, and uploading it to the internet, she would have been arrested on the spot, and that video would not be available anywhere, much less on the fascist hangouts which claim to be parenting forums.

That was basically where this all sat up until September 2nd when a newspaper with a questionable reputation allowed one Andy Ngo to write something in relation to this. For, again, very serious ethical reasons, I am not going to link to that, or mention who published it, but I will link this article with a brief explanation of who Andy Ngo is. rollingstone.com/culture/cultur… Short version, he's a dangerous fascist, who's pretty pro getting-people-killed-by-other-fascists, and pretty anti being-at-all-credible-in-discussion-of-literally-anything, so, not someone anyone should be giving column issues to about this, or anything else.

His article, which I'm scanning through now, doesn't add any actual new information, but does have a giant pile of random hideous accusations half-truths and dead-naming of some totally random trans woman with the vague implication that she is, again, this woman who kinda provably never actually existed.

And other news sites have been "updating their coverage" with this "new information." Particularly ones that are constantly looking for new angles for writing transphobic hit pieces.

Meanwhile, actual journalists who recognize the name and understand that Andy Ngo is not a reliable source of information have been actually looking into his claims about this random woman and hey, she HAS been charged with "indecent exposure..." 20 years ago. As a reduction of charges from prostitution. Basically made from Walking While Trans arrests.

So... yeah, it appears we just have a far-right scumbag here picking a random trans woman out of a hat to invasively stalk and misrepresent the hell out who there seems to be no actual reasonable reason to suspect has any connection to this incident we have already been given fairly conclusive proof is completely fictitious. There might be something I'm missing here, but as NO ONE reporting on this has said anything about the initial investigation into the apparently non-existent "Wi Spa incident" being reopened in light of new anything, there is no valid claim anyone can make that they're looking into anything relating to this random woman in connection with that, and witch hunts are not a cool thing to get involved in, so I'm not looking in any further.

But somehow, there's more! As you may recall, around the 9th or so the Guardian (via their U.S. based offices) briefly published an interview with Judith Butler (which was fortunately archived- web.archive.org/web/2021090713…), then very quickly excised 3 paragraphs wherein she had some very important things to say about fascism. Then pulled the entire interview. Then deleted the entire landing page for a whole series of trans positive articles the interview was supposed to spearhead over the month (the rest of which have been quietly killed, last I heard with no kill fees for their authors).

When questioned on this by literally everyone paying attention because seriously WTF rather than what I have to assume is the actual answer (transphobic fascists run the Guardian in the UK and this is really well-documented and the source of tons of scandals), they tried to pin it on "new developments with the Wi Spa story" which really doesn't have a damn thing to do with Judith Butler, the interview, or, again, reality, because there haven't been any and the story is and was "some right-wing crank staged a bit to give nazis an excuse to pull some crap."

Many SJWs like to do things like post links to something they find awful and say 'I'm so tired', because apparently their struggles with having to see an attractive woman in a video game is so mentally exhausting. What's probably actually happening is they're depressed but get dopamine hits from being angry and agreed with online, so the only thing that makes them feel awake is their hatred. They're all delusional to at least some extent, and have had their narcissism encouraged by their online bubbles, so they don't think they'll ever be on the wrong side of an issue - and that if they are, there's nothing really like cancel culture, so they'll just be able to educate themselves and apologise and everyone will move on, because their online 'friends' know they'd never do something like that on purpose.

It's funny that Jake's delusional paranoia is, in some ways, the correct response to the attitude of the people he thinks he's in with, but that it's for all the wrong reasons. I’m sure he bases his takes on the first tweet he sees. Doesn’t bother reading the articles, doesn’t bother researching for himself. Some of his takes are so completely, bafflingly wrong that it’s clear he literally does not know what he’s talking about. He tries to cover his ignorance with a mix of that breezy faux-casual style of writing and insane hyperbole, as if to imply “I am so very smart that my understanding of this issue is a given.”

I can’t decide what kind of dunce he is. Whether it’s that thinks no one could have a better understanding of the issue than him, because he is Very Smart and if he, a Very Smart Person, can get everything he needs this way, then the dullards that make up the rest of the population will be similarly lazy.
