This. It doesn't make sense. Wu was a nobody before GG and wasn't even in the same circles as Zoe. Wu wanted to get into the GG dogfight and get her name out there. It's helped her career and gave her a small window where some people mistook her as being credible.

That's just it though: Wu wasn't a nobody. I mean, yes, we never heard of her, but she had tangible ties to several of the big journalists involved in Gamergate's outset, including Ben Kuchera and Leigh Alexander. Wu has a lot of powerful IRL ties, too - Del Harvey via Glenn Fleischmann, for example.

We don't have enough information to say for sure, but it's very plausible given Wu's links at the time that they saw Wu as a potentially usable asset, before they realized the gravity of their mistake.

And if so, it sure does explain a lot of other things, like how SJWs openly admitted they were fed up with maintaining the ruse they gave a shit about Wu, all of Harper's leaks revealing how Wu was exiled from the cool kids club, why Quinn and Anita (especially the former) publicly turned on Wu, etc.

Assuming all this is true, a lot of pieces would fall into place.

Not to mention her Twitter contacts.

It's plausible but not likely because it's based on the idea that someone looked at Wu and thought "Yeah, I want that thing on my side". These people think they're the cool kids table. They're not going to concoct a plan that involves the kid who eats paste and is prone to shouting matches with his Sailor Moon dolls. Remember that these people thought spending 50 bucks on KIA ad space was a master troll plan. That's just my opinion on it. Maybe if the "serious" chat they allude to in the logs ever gets leaked we'll know for sure.

Olsen (along with the rest of Zoe's orbiters) are already pushing the narrative of "Zoe's game is going to be the Game Of The Year!", and trying to spin the 6:1 downvote to upvote ratio as some sort of victory against them nasty GlitterGophers.

It doesn't matter how they spin it. It doesn't matter how many awards they win. If no one buys the game, it's a failure.

Success in the industry is ultimately decided by your ability to earn money. And as long as they have to keep begging the internet for handouts, all these "game developers" are colossal failures.

It's probably not a coincidence that as soon as ex-Giant Bomb's Austin Walker and ex-GB and ex-Kotaku's Patrick Klepek got to Vice Gaming, they released a 10 minute long puff piece about what an amazing and strong woman Zoe Quinn is. Especially considering Patrick is a guy who is quite clearly close friends with her and constantly pushed for lots of content with her in it on Giant Bomb (to the point that even at the time, people thought it was weird), and at one point did an entire panel at GDC with just him and her on it. It's pretty clear that the Vice video is in large part his doing.

Wu was not as bad (internet savy wise) as she is today. She was pretty competent in getting attention from mainstream outlets on her own and using contacts to defend herself from opposition. Given how starving they were for attention, I can totally see thinking Wu as an asset before she went full retarded.

You mean this Patrick Klepek?

You can be a critical success without being a commercial success, but Chelsea was never either one; her critical successes were all paid for. She had a media establishment that decided to use her as a figurehead to advance a narrative, but her usefulness for that purpose is ended.

The Vice story shows that there are still people in the media she can prevail on for favors, but they'll soon figure out that it's not in their interest to promote someone who clearly has no real merit. Now that Chelsea's 15 minutes are up, puff pieces on her will do more to embarrass media outlets than to give them credit for being do-gooders. Posting fawning articles about someone who makes "deliberately" crappy games and then disabling the comments is not a good look for any journalist.

I'd say you have a point here, bro, but Quinn's clique includes SFtheWolf, Sarah Nyberg, and a host of other people who wouldn't know stability or normalcy if it targeted them from space with an orbital weapons platform. Fact is, we know they're just as much of a trainwreck as Wu herself is. Wu's just more blatant.

Probably is more pushing from Austin than Patrick doing as he quit kotaku a few weeks ago and the vice video seems to professional to be rushed.

I don't think the people who write about video games are going to change. Kotaku couldn't get more embarrassing than it is and they continue down that path.

These are losers who failed to become real journalists. At this point they're just trying to make some internet friends and succeed in the incredibly slight chance that one of these feminists will fall in love with them. These people will never hit a point where they become real journalists (which is probably why they are writing about video games in the first place).

While I don't doubt that Austin probably pals around with Zoe as well, I honestly think he's too smart to risk his career over getting involved in dumb GamerGate bullshit. Even at Giant Bomb, he kept all his SJW sperging firmly on his Twitter, unlike Patrick. Especially since as the head of Vice Gaming, he has WAY more to lose than Patrick as well. The amount of ZQ asspatting Patrick used to do back at Giant Bomb makes this very much seem like a "him" thing, where I honestly can't even remember Austin mentioning Zoe once.

The group is one big freak parade. I think this plays into how and why the media used them the way they did.

Because Quinn is such a freak, with no merit and in normal circumstances no credibility, the media knows that she will march in lockstep with them when they create a sympathetic narrative for her.

Because her followers are freaks, wretched and unemployable in the real world, Quinn knows that they'll be 100% loyal to her for the legitimacy she can lend them. If she cuts them off, they have nothing.

This is an hour long but it's basically Keplek trying to be a "good ally" and still being kicked about by even the likes of Wu.

Looking back to before Wu got entangled with Gamergate, he managed to hide his insane harpy behaviour and fucked up past as John Flynt fairly well, and had just released Rev 60 with a small team of women who was looking for attention for his game and himself. So to Quinn's gang, Wu seemed like the perfect person to join in the fight against those evil 'gineygobots.

This is them after Wu showed up on Pakman's show looking like a crazy cat lady that took a bath in a KFC grease trap.

Brote: "They're talking about instigating shit, on fucking Christmas! This is what they do! 'Know what would make those gamers real mad?' This is what they do on Christmas, instead of like, 'Let's fuck off for 24 hours and enjoy Christmas together' they're like 'Let's try to instigate shit, give ourselves a gift'."

Missed the caps, but they were all talking about how much money they would donate to try to buy this ad with most of them saying they had no money but would give it to this. Dan "Foldable Pedo" Olson pledged to pay for it out of his Foldable Ideas paypal if they came up short.

they're all gleefully uneducated and uncultured fucks.
Rich coming from a man who can't spell "Ouroboros". Mind you, I suspect the closest he comes to being cultured is having an appreciation of underage Russian girls.
