The Wakayama Prefectural Police revealed on May 8, 2024 that Your Name. movie producer Koichiro Itou has been referred to prosecutors for additional violation of Child Prostitution & Pornography law in Japan, after it came to light that he had paid an underage girl for sexual intercourse.

The latest case involved a 17-year-old high school girl from Yokohama. Investigators believe Itou knew the girl was a minor when he paid her 30,000 yen for having sexual intercourse at his residence in December 2023.

He is also suspected of taking and saving photographs of the act.

According to to investigators, Itou admitted to paying at least 20 girls on social media for sexual favors.

“I met at least 20 underage girls on social media and paid them to have sex.”

Another victim of his was a 15-year-old high school girl, with whom he engaged in child prostitution for over two years, sending her 20,000 yen each time in return for sexual favors.

The police revealed they identified the victims through the images on his smartphone. The producer has been arrested thrice till now on suspicions of breaking the Child Prostitution and Pornography law.

Itou was originally arrested on Feb 21, 2024 after investigators found that he coerced a 15-year-old high school girl from Nagano who he met on an SNS platform to send her nude selfies.

Itou was aware that she was a minor.

This incident occurred in September 2021 and he is believed to have offered 12,500 yen in cash in order to get the images.

Koichiro Itou is a consistent collaborator on Shinkai works at Comix Wave, including Your Name, Weathering with You & Suzume. He has worked on the director’s previous movie instalments. He met the director first while he was working on The Place Promised in Our Early Days.

one of the protagonists is a shrine maiden and the whole thing is basically set up by a local god they revere to save the town, it makes sense in the context of the plot.
complaining about old nip custom when that is practiced in other places too is kinda dumb.

That being said, I didn’t expect the cool history lessons in this thread. They were a really good read. Hate it had to be under this fuck, but still.

When I was in 8th grade, there was this optional, week long, class trip to Washingon DC during the Thanksgiving break. I didn't go but when those that did came back, a friend of mine who went told me about the signs that warned of prohibited items on the White House tour.

It had the things you would expect listed first:

No guns, knives, explosives, brass knuckles, etc. Then when you got towards the end of the list, it mentioned stuff like, "No Ninja stars, no nunchucks..."

You know, cuz lots.of people carry ninja stars amd nunchucks around with them.

It seems like older teens. I wonder if these were just a kink or actual ephebophilia. I wonder of he saw other types (ages) of prostitutes? Given the age, he's probably going to get off with minor penalties. Unless the government tries to make an example out of him for some extra points with western countries and media or something.

IANAL, but I don't think Japan even has a presumption of innocence until proven guilty. For an industrialized country, their legal system seems pretty illiberal.

WAKAYAMA -- A producer of the 2016 Japanese animated film "Your Name." was sentenced to four years in prison by the Wakayama District Court Feb. 28 for paying cash to multiple underage girls for sex and filming their acts.

Koichiro Ito, 53, a former production company manager and a resident of Nakatsugawa, Gifu Prefecture, had been charged with offenses including anti-child prostitution and anti-child pornography law violations as well as rape, with prosecutors seeking a six-year prison sentence.

Presiding Judge Keiko Fukushima pointed out in the ruling that Ito repeatedly committed child prostitution and secretly captured images during sex. She stated, "As his actions severely harm the mental and physical development of victims who are not mature enough to understand the impact of sexual activities, his culpability is high."

According to the ruling, the defendant had a 15-year-old girl send him nude images via smartphone in September 2021 while being aware that she was under 18. Furthermore, between 2022 and 2023, he paid two girls under 18 for sex acts.

And it looks like that Japan is somehow less based than Blue-as-fuck Hawaii, since a teacher that groomed his students and filmed the acts got a harsher sentence (30 years from the State charges, which is being served concurrently with the 17.5 year Federal sentence he received) for this offense. But then again, anime producers are clearly higher than teachers in the sentence reducing totem pole, I guess.
