I normally would put something like this in the "no view youtube videos thread" I made for youtube videos that have generally less than 1000 views i stumble onto.

But this one is a gem. A literal greybeard ranting about rust programmers not understanding the concept of linked lists in C.

I've been subscribed to that guy for a while and I find him to be pretty underrated. He's the developer of a fdupes fork called "jdupes" [history].

Using the papers he shared publicly, we can easily find the case he's referring to here. On 11 July 2024, Belgian police found a dead body on a forest trail. Initially, they thought it was suicide, but forensic investigation indicated homicide. The suspected murderer was arrested and later released because, at least according to him, there was not enough evidence

This would cause the GrapheneOS Twitter account to start looking into him. The account would make many replies telling his story. He noticed a major inconsistency in his story. In the first tweet, he claimed that he gave out the PIN code and assumed that they used it, however in the later tweet he claims that he watched the agent entering the PIN code

  • I installed Firefox via apt, it got installed as a snap. Okay then? I don’t really mind I guess.
  • Firefox needs to update. You cannot have the program opened during. Why??

  • I need to install Firefox onto somewhere else. What do you mean snap won’t let you?
Genuinely such a piece of shit packaging system. The updates are the part that really fucking annoy me. Adding onto it that they want to replace GNUutils with RUutils makes me not want to use Ubuntu ever again. I’ll still recommend it to newbies with decent computers, but not to people wanting to speed up their PC or to power users, my God snap sucks.

Why not just recommend Linux Mint instead? It disables snaps entirely and is designed to be user friendly. Honestly with the way Gnome is it's user hostile to the point you probably scare Linux off half the people you recommend it to when they would've been happy with Mint.
