Lets say I'm a 40 year old man from a small town, and when I was 15 (25 years ago) I got caught by a local farmer fucking his chicken. Now lets say I leave town for those 25 years, and in that time the rumor has spread that when I was 15, I fucked a chicken. When I come back at age 40, and a 15 year old kid from the next generation calls me Chicken Fucker, do you really think this hypothetical me can say as a valid retort "I'm not a Chicken Fucker, kid! I fucked a chicken before you were born! It only happened once, and it was 25 years ago!" or do you think that kid would have every right to call me a chicken fucker?
