They sort of negate one another. If someone's going around doing this, then it's actually happening and 2 isn't lying about it. If 2's lying about it and making it up, it implies that no one's going around doing it.

Seeing people like him, Flinters, 2 Gryphon, Xianjaguar, Dustmeat, Roz Gibson, Chris Sawyer, and Vicki Wyman on the slow and ugly and very well deserved decline almost restores my faith; perhaps instead of exploiting gullible fanboys and being ‘artists’ they should have, you know, gotten a stable job.

....Well, it sets off my schadenfreude and that’s good enough anyways, for me.
