Besides the 20 year old main perpetrator (powerword: Joshua Michael Lemire), a 16 year old girl and a 17 year old boy (neither of whom can be named because Juvenile) were also arrested, charged with animal cruelty, and let out on bail. This appeared to be some form of cyberbullying of the cat's owner, a 16 year old girl. The cat had to be taken to the vet and tested positive for MDMA and amphetamines. The ears of the cat had 666 written in one, and "My cat" written in the other, presumably with permanent marker.

Also in case you were wondering, Sherman Road area (where the cat was found after the perps let it go) is a bad area with an inexplicably high number of outright insane people--and it's been that way for over 40 years. The place is literally Bully Central. Lots of rental houses rented by people who abuse the shit out of the property, drug houses and illicit pot grow-ops, lots of autists, and people that seem just plain fuxed in the head--and of course none of these people can raise kids properly. The term "white trash" comes to mind. Probably something in the water. Some people call it "Hindu Heights" despite the fact that the "Hindus" are in fact Sikhs (pronounced "seeks") and they have a temple up that way, and the Sikhs are most of the only normal people in the area.

Um, not really. One can easily dehydrate on it and it’s usually tainted with other drugs when bought off the street.
Sure, it takes a lot to overdose, but you still can. It’s not impossible to OD on xtc.

Either way I hope these people are never allowed to have a pet again.

that's the thing, though--it was not their pet. Dunno but don't think they have their own.

Also whoever posted the facebook page, that's not the right kid. That's an older guy, in Sarnia, Ontario. Way far away from where this happened.

It's called "Drunken Duncan" (and has been for, like, EVER), for a reason. I think at one point it had the highest per capita number of alcoholics in the province, if not the entire country. Bunch of mills closed down in the past 30 years, leaving jobless NDP voters that had to either go on UI or hack it in other industries--which may partially explain the exceptional level of alcoholics. Exceptional people keep voting in exceptional politicians that do exceptional things.

We didn't get this level of exceptional drug usage and distribution (and crime) until the former MLA for the area pushed for--and got--a "Homeless shelter" which was built right next to two schools and tons of apartment buildings and which has attracted homeless people (and drug dealers) from all over the country. People from Ontario and Manitoba show up there cuz they're tired of freezing their balls off in the winter but they didn't want to stay in Victoria or Nanaimo. The ones that can't get into the shelter because reasons then camp out by the nearby McDonald's or they go camp out behind the school administration buildings near the dike by the creek. The entire neighborhood in the surrounding area has turned to absolute shit.

It's not the same area as what happened to the cat, but that other area--Sherman Road/Berkey's Corner--is its own level of literally wrong-side-of-the-tracks exceptional that has a longer history of being super fucking exceptional.

Update: According to a court document screenshot on facebook (via Confessions of Duncan), the main perp, Josh Lemire, was convicted of assault prior to this event. So we know some effed up shit is going on with this kid already. Someone on the fb post claimed they'd seen him attack a girl.

Charges against Joshua Lemire have been "stayed". This is what 'stayed' means in Canadian law:

The decision by the Crown to stay or withdraw charges means they discontinue the prosecution. In both situations, once your charges are withdrawn or stayed by the Crown, you don't have to go back to court. ... Stayed charges can be “brought back to life” within one year of the day they are stayed.

However, charges will be proceeding against two teenagers also involved in the case.

The BCPS stated that the decision to stay the charges against Lemire was made after further information was received by the prosecutor, and the prosecutor concluded the charge approval standard could not be met.


Lemire had been charged with one count of causing unnecessary pain/suffering to an animal.


The two teenagers, a 16-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy who can’t be identified due to their age, are being charged with one count of causing an animal to suffer in the incident.
